We've reached the production peak last year. Now it's going down, it's not gonna get better.
- That's not it at all. Demand is down, that's why production is down.mikotondria3

Not a conspiracy theorist usually but... the UK government is trying to get cash into the coffers; they get a shit load through tax; coming up to the end of the tax year; maybe just maybe they are instigating a little public petrol panic? Yesterday 80% (ish) more fuel was sold than the day before. And a strike hasn't yet been called and if it does isn't there a week's warning? Makes you think

I don't believe that - people aren't spending any more than they would normally - they're just bringing the purchases forward. So the government won't get any more money in the long run. I'm afraid it's just down to the moronic public acting like headless chickens and creating shortages where there were none.I suspect the govt were trying to spike the union's guns by getting the public to take defensive action to take the sting out of any possible strike action. But, as usual, they didn't think it through or they were too stupid to realise it would end up causing panic buying instead.
- exactly... they tried to cause a shortage to damage public support for the potential strikefadein11

from the bbc:
A woman suffered serious burns when petrol ignited as she was decanting it in the kitchen of her York home because her daughter had run out of fuel.
The woman, who is in her 40s, suffered 40% burns in the accident in the Acomb area of the city on Thursday.
She has been taken to the burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital.
A fire service spokesman said: "Her daughter asked her mum for petrol because she had run out. The cooker was on and the fumes ignited."
