Let the users clean things up. How hard would it be to implement a +/- system, so that if a thread gets enough "-" votes it gets automatically deleted. Like a Youtube comment says "This message cannot be displayed because it has received too many "-" votes"... except instead of hiding it, it gets deleted. IP restricted of course so that a single person couldn't keep clicking "-".
- interesting but not enough. I wish QBN keeps it open. But it's true about the spam.********
- Not enough? Say all you need is 25 votes to get a thread deleted. A spam thread would be gone in minutes.CanHasQBN
- that's true.********

@CanHasQBN
That would just be abused.

it also would not even work. look how much spam goes unnoticed, unreported to the spam thread, and now you want several people (25?!) people to vote for it to be removed? A great way to make sure nothing happens. There's dozens of spam posts in the threads that people haven't reported yet, the user is gone, the posts remain, voting for these posts would do nothing.
- we'd all be trying to promote spam posts so that enough people would vote them downuuuuuu

All of these ideas aren't solving the real, minor nuisance of a problem. Spam software would.

mods. simple example, if it were me, i could have nuked the misc spam injected posts i come across in my daily fun here. click, gone, done. you have enough mods, the spam will disappear faster. mods are an easy solution - reconfig'ing the site, although ideal, ain't gone happen.

uuuu, nobody reports anything to the spam complaint thread because...
#1. People have to locate the spam complaint thread in order to post in it. Most aren't willing or motivated enough to look for it.
#2. People do not have any faith in the mods of this place to take any quick action to remove these spam threads. Sometime it feels like you're posting into the abyss. Basically the process is too long.
I think you could easily get 25 people to delete a spam thread. There are a lot of users on here and I believe the ~25 votes would come quickly. They are simply clicks on a button with a "-" on it, and the count will rack up fast. One will not need to locate the spam complaint thread, link the thread, and link the spammer's profile. Rather it's a quick process.
- your intel is off, that thread is posted in every single timemonospaced
- It just seems like a primitive way to stop spam. It should be more automatic and effortless.CanHasQBN

Maybe the spam thread needs to be permanently stickied at the top of the list.

look guys, the spam gets deleted

I agree with your criticism of the spam thread system but its downsides are not a justification for a voting process with its own downsides. Youtube uses this system because there is a consistent and high saturation of users, QBN have a small amount of mostly casual users and like 100 hardcore pro users. Utopian is the only one here on the weekend. Youtube also have several spam systems in place including filters and another basic reporting system. These are very different sites, I think more spam ONLY mods taken from the 100 hardcore users is still the best idea.

I must say I don't like the spam thread being bumped, it looks gross, its not a real thread. I would like to be able to report to the spam thread somehow but the spam thread stays backend only so it doesn't have to be bumped or found.
...Oh wait who gives a shit

I made a Chrome and Safari extension moooonths ago to easily report spammers:
http://www.qbn.com/topics/637369…
I haven't updated it anymore, and it works when the creator of the thread is the spammer you want to report, the latest ones we are having are replies on existing threads. What I do in those cases is copy the link of the profile of the spammer before hitting the "report for spam" and once you are bounced to the spammers thread I replace the line of the not spammer author with the actual spammer profile link (just select the line and paste).

^ exactly. this place is quickly losing the goodwill users have toward it. I've already started to notice a decrease in traffic on the site, which is a self reinforcing sort of thing.
SOMETHING needs to change to curtail the recent spam, or eventually that's all that's going to be left.
