As much as you like but no less than 72dpi
Also pshop has some canvas size templates for your screen size.

Ah sorry I mean't screen size on a 16:9 ratio.
- monospaced0
480px tall
- Ignore this you are UKchossy
- oh my bad, I didn't realize DVDs in England were a high resolution than in the USAmonospaced

1024 x 576 = 16:9 widescreen
Then you MUST squash this without constraining proportions to 720 x 576. Circles will look like eggs. This is now 16:9 FHA. Then whoever is making the DVD will set it up to be wide screen and it will look sexy fun time lovely.

I tend to work at 720p minimum (1280x720) then down size to DVD quality if I have to. Then you can export higher quality versions if needed - for youtube? or presentations
:]
