NYC - no question. Was in London for 10 years, been in NYC for almost 5.
NYC is just more convenient; cheap cabs, closer and easier to see your friends, better (goes on later) nightlife, great inexpensive restaurants, Lots of take-out.
That said, I do love London AND I'm further on in my career here, so a bit more cash.
- its so awesome nyc worked out for you. i remember when you first came and all uncertain. :)e-pill
- I seam to remember it was you that made me that one one night in the E Village

both cities are great in its own way, so I'd chose the one where you can be better off, as for any of them it SUCKS being on a budget.

Londoners seem to knock off work at a more reasonable hour, take their lunch break, and work less on the weekend. New Yorkers leave work at 2am, eat at their desk, and only take one day off. Londoners get 2month holiday. New Yorkers get 2 weeks holiday. The girlies in New York are nicer on the eyes, but have attitude to match. London will drain your bank account in the bat of an eye. NewYork is easier to do on the cheap. The MTA is dirtier than the tube, but will get you there faster. Buses in London take forever.
- yes always eat lunch at desk. less holidays.. but girlies are definitely cuutere-pill

You are less likely to get shot when in London, but stand more of a chance of getting stabbed though. Be prepared for queues in London, patience is a religion. The transport system is a joke and so are the utility costs. Sick pay is generous and there are better holiday benefits. It takes longer to fire you than in the States. That having said, it costs a fortune to live here, but you're very close to Europe...

Bearing in mind that for most part of the year it gets dark at 5pm in London
- January feels like it gets dark at 3:30 ffs. Depressing.Douglas
- not most of the year, just winter, surely?MrT
- Winter length = 10 months
Summer = 4 weeks
Spring = 1 week
Autumn = 3 weeksclearThoughts - Are you kidding? Dublin's just a stone throw away and it's not yet dark at 11PM in the summerraf

I would say London - it's so damn close to Europe, and when you're earning the pound the whole continent becomes your playground...
- That depends how much pound you're earningbiusness
- I thought London was IN EuropeORAZAL
- Londoners don't think London is IN EuropeclearThoughts

I only lived in NYC for 3 months. but that still wasn't long enough to get my head around the following; queuing to get into bars, taxi drivers not knowing where they are going (it's a fricken numbered grid, how hard can it be) and tipping for bad service for fear of being thrown through a window.
I lived in London 5 years before realizing it doesn't matter how many friends you have, you don't live near them and therefore it's too expensive to see them in the evening.

I was in London for a few months last year - and damn that place is cheap compared to here in Melbourne. Sorry off topic, but fuck we must have it bad here if London is considered expensive.
- < yay for Australia's bullshit cost of living. Brisbane CBD rent's went up about 30% last year no joke.tOki
- +1 for Australian cost of living crap. But we just got the carbon-tax so prices should fall nicely...MrT
- Was in London 4 years and then moved back to melbs, Was cheaper to live in LDN.thumb_screws
- Cost of living in a city in AU commensurate with pay is out of control.thumb_screws

A quick guide to London:
West – Heathrow and poshos
East – Art fags, Olympic "regeneration" projects, industrial decay
North – Turks, rioters and Karl Marx's grave
South – Yoots
Central – Japs with cameras, bankers with cocaine
Outside – nothing

I lived in UK years ago, loved it except the depressing darkness and winter blah weather.... so if you're there, save up some quid for a monthly escape to Ibeza in the winter...

Its interesting to see the comparisons, sad to see that New Yorkers work even longer hours than Londoners.
More hours != More productivity
Friends wife does half the hours in Norway compared to her London job, still has the same productivity. True Story.
- Londoners can be chatty in long meetings... maybe more so than Norweigans..vaxorcist
