latest release is 4.2.1.
I can only run 3.1.3 as I'm on Mac OS 10.5.8
Is this older version ok for learning purposes?
:/

IMHO - not really. No matter what the platform or language, you should always stick to the latest version.
I have older version of Xcode and newer iOS dev books and changes between Xcode vesion drive me nuts.
But on the other hand, just for reading, it might be good, but for reading and coding you should consider an upgrade.
- thanks 303 - all my software and system are running smoothly - can't upgrade OS right now :(alicetheblue

It's ok for learning Obj-C and how it works with Interface Builder.
But don't expect things you make it in to compile flawlessly on newer APIs

Had the same problem. On Mac, can't install new version of Xcode as I have Snow Leopard. On Windows I can't install Windows Phone Developer as have XP. Eventually, I decided to get a custom PC and remove XP from my Mac. I don't to want put W7 on my MBP.

@animatedgif - didn't apple change the way how interface builder works in Xcode 4?
- The basics are the same, just combined 2 apps into 1 really.animatedgif
