I smell an eastside QBN meetup.

Also live in SE Portland... that area near division is one of my favorites. Lots of good neighborhoods, but avoid THE PEARL... nice to work in that area, but not to live.

Thanks everyone. I'm flying out next Friday to check out a place!

I live in SE portland I love it more than ANY other neighborhood. Downtown is lame, mostly. Plus gets sketchy at night. Alberta is also cool but doesn't have as much to offer as Southeast.
DO IT! Burnside, Belmont, Hawthorne, Division. All good.

There aren't too many neighborhoods in Portland I'd consider "bad". There are some sketchy blocks in N Portland and on the outskirts of town but unless your slinging rocks you shoud be fine. Car break ins seem to be the worst you're going to get out here.
There's no reason to live in or try to be close to downtown PDX unless you work there and are too lazy to commute or you're a homeless white kid.
I live in the Roseway neighborhood in NE and love it... def. the best value hood in PDX to buy a house.
- the new theater and liquor store in Roseway are great! We should have a QBN meet up at the Pirates Cove Brown Jug!
fooler - I love the NE. Grew up in the Irvington/Dolph Park neighborhood. Great place. Expensive now though.fugged
- Dude, I was in Pirate's Cove one night and the girl there was scaaary!arthur
- Arthur, I hear they have a 1 armed stripper there! I was wondering when you'd show up herefooler
- It's the only strip club I've been to where I actually want the girls to stay dressed. Guiness on tap which is rare for Portland.BK

Portland is so small you can live on 50th and Division and still have access to all 4 quadrants of the city. You want to head to North Portland? No problem, 45 minute bike ride, 15 minute car ride... you want to head to The Pearl, same thing. Try that in bigger cities that have no Urban Growth Boundary like Phoenix or LA.

I live here and have a mate that lives about 5 blocks from there. No problem whatsoever. Good luck!

Fuck it, you are golden. Build a castle. Enjoy your life.

that part of SE is booming right now. Everything is in Division between 39th and 20th. The city is in the middle of a major re-zoning on Division to revitalize the street. It should just get better and better as time goes on. They are building a ton of condos with street level retail there, as well as in the rest of the city.
- You are correct. I was relating to my experience to the people over in Powell not division. I got a little mixed up with my hood.dibec
- yah it's going to be like Hawthorn 10 years ago or Belmont 5 years ago.
fooler - I lived south of powell near Reed for a few years and it's still cool. Gladstone is getting better.fooler

As you get closer to 82nd on Division and anything East of that is pretty sketchy. Anything lower than Mt Tabor (60th) is very safe.

se 43rd and division? that's a pretty good neighborhood unless it's gone drastically downhill. usually east of 50th is great in southeast. the closer in you are the better (until you get to 11th / industrial area), but yeah. i'd say that's a pretty good spot.
- dibec0
Actually ... the further you stay away from Powell, the better it will be.

Dude. It is a pretty sketchy hood. Lots of car break-ins, lotsa weirdos that traverse up and down division, la la la. Pretty much scary white people. It is a major route into town coming from the East. There are pockets of glory, but few ... but they are there. If you want to be on Division, either hit it early right off the Ross Island going back to 20th or bust out East past 205.
It is also one of those neighborhoods that changes when the lights go down. yeah. I worked for a law firm there for about 5 years. Amazing what kinda shit I would find in the morning. AMAZING K!

I've lived in South East PDX for 12 years and love it. When I moved here the Pearl District was nothing but warehouses and North Portland was pretty ghetto and dangerous. Now both those places are trendy and expensive and SE seems to be the exact same.
SE Division isn't the trendiest place to live but you will be within walking/biking distance to Mt Tabor Park
Pok Pok & the Whiskey Soda Lounge plus the best BBQ in town, Clays Smokehouse.

and the Hawthorne District.

Yes, the NW area is the Pearl District I believe. Best place in Portland they say. And I've heard the NE isn't too great. I guess it was where some gangs from Cali migrated to some years back.
Gonna fly out next week to check some places out. Guess I'll find out soon.

Only thing i know is my buddy live in the northwest and i really liked the area. Walked everywhere, out late taking pictures. Backed right up to a sweet park. Felt safe. Really liked it. Now just gotta figure out if i can score a job up there and move.
- Oh yea took some picture son the river NE side and was a bit sketchy. lot of bum encampments and weird shit.deathboy

Thanks for your help, dummies.
I guess I'm interested in more of a human perspective (versus stats). My friend up there said it was a "mediocre" part of Portland.
Any Portland inhabitants here?...
