I just traded the 2009 for the 2012.
Yes, less European, or less Audiest as I saw it, more Americanized as someone pointed out, but this is mostly on the dashboard and interior.
I like the new aerodynamics more in the 2012 version. The grille was nicer on the 2009 but it made the car look very small. This is more mid-size sedan like.
I takes a little getting used to it, but it's fine. I like it now, and it drives just as good. Never had to bring the previous one to the shop, outside of the schedule routine check-ups, so it's reliable car, which is what matters most.

If I had £34000(ish) to spend on a VW it'd be the:
2011 Golf R (with DSG Box, Leather Interior & Recaro Front Seats Spec)
It's a 4x4. With a new intercooler and remap and exhaust system these can put out 350bhp!

I have a 2011 2.5 SE that I scooped up in the Summer.
Despite the model downgrades compared to the '10, which are not that big of a deal, the car runs amazingly and has some great fuel efficency.I would highly recommend it.

the Jetta is cool, but if I were you I would seriously consider this
and it comes in white too!
