Any of you have any tricks or methods for staying focused on your daily work? Around this time of year I just feel drained and find it impossible to sit and work on stuff for very long. I'm the kind of person where once I'm locked in after a half hour or so I'm fine, but it's just getting started on stuff that involves too many distractions.

coffee, or even water/juice.
close everything except working file.
focus for 20 minutes on 1 thing.
go to bed an hr early and get an hr earlier.

i find it easier to stay focused if my space is tidy and i've got some tunes on. make sure you have your water and anything else you'll need nearby so you don't have to leave your desk. turn off the tv

well... like any freelancer, I think for a moment of becoming a domesticated animal in a huge cube farm from hell, or just visualize an episode of "the office" and then I immediately know how lucky I am!
then I can concentrate pretty well

I use self-control program posted above. You can block everything if you want as well. this helps a lot.
another helpful qbn suggestion I got was set a timer for twenty minutes and do nothing but work for that twenty minutes. after it's over do whatever you want and then restart the timer for another twenty minutes. continue for the whole day
- funny enough I actually did something like this today.mg33

I tend to stall when my projects are huge and looming. sometimes it helps to break them into much smaller tasks. More tasks, yes - but I feel more productive and it helps to motivate. Where motivation falls short, discipline kicks in.

There is no easy answer.
It is simply a matter of discipline.
You're a pro, so focus.
It is that simple.

And if that doesn't work, try a standing desk. I've been using one for over a decade, and can't go back.Standing Desks Are On The Rise
