    how sick was it,
did you enjoy seeing corps burned with napalm,
birth defects, children amputated from walking on mines,
countries completely ravaged, the opium traffic which led many
american soldiers to come back broken and addicted to heroine?

I believe they call it the American war over there, funny right?
    was it HD enough?

    lots of questions tonight

I saw some Vietnam footage last weekend that was really impressive. Good quality. Might have been this.

I've never been too into that war's history; always been much more into WWII history, but it's fascinating to see quality footage.

    How is this footage HD?

    • Same way they made Wizard of Oz into HD: MAGIC.mg33
    • it's probably remastered from actual film in 1080 instead of the classic standard def stuff we've seen historicallymonospaced

heres a not so funny but kinda funny story, in SF me and my dad took in a Vietnam vet off the street once to help put him on his feet, he slept in the garage with my motorcycles (better than his previous conditions i guess, it was better than it sounded, garage was kinda nice anyway) he slept by my room as my room was downstairs. 1 night without thinking I decided to smoke a bowl and watch Platoon in full surround, also had one of those 15" sub bass things for home theaters. (keep in mind vietnam vet sleeping right outside my bedroom door in the echo-y garage) so Im watching this movie and right when barnes dies, after the Tet offensive I decide to head upstairs to grab something out of the fridge, as I walked out my door, homeboy was sitting in his cot crying and sweating, i felt like such a jackass, the next day he was telling me about being caught up in the tet offensive telling me how he felt like a coward his whole life because while his friends were getting massacred around him, he couldn't do anything but hide watch and listen and it haunts him to this very day.

    that war was pure insanity.

Such a shame in america how no one questions their government or the history that is fed to them. Finally though they may just be waking up. I pray it isnt too late.

    • It's a shame that you make such a naive generalization about Americans, actually.monospaced
    • What history have I been fed wrongly? That it occurred, or the reasons why?mg33
    • @74LEO poor generalization man. I'm sure your not meaning to sound like you are on a high pedestal but thats what it comes off as.mightyj

Go and see the war museum in Ho Chi Minh City for some perspective. Slapping HD on a subject like this as though that will offer something new other than visceral thrills, that's a bit sad.

Vietnam in HD, what a joke!

Just another marketing ploy and gimmick by the History Channel to pawn off archived Vietnam footage from 60's and 70's to the warmongering American dolts.

BTW- All the same Vietnam footage is available for free at the Library of Congress!

    • have you watched one episode? how can you say the congressional library has the same footage?BonSeff
    • sadly this is the only way people like me who had parents who lived through this era can get a perspectiveBonSeff
    • because my pop when he was alive would not speak of what happened during the warBonSeff
    • but i can understand the trivializationBonSeff
    • My father served as well, this propaganda war profiteering shit made him sick to his stomach.utopian
    • so in your and your pop's eyes, those vets in this film that talk about their accounts are sellouts?BonSeff
