Good afternoon QBN.
I've taken part in a DJ Shadow Remix Competition - the prize being your remix being released by DJ Shadow on Island Records so a pretty damn big prize.
I posted up the other week asking for votes but rather than bumping that I thought i'd make a new post.
I was in the Top 3 for a good while but now the ones in there have record companies pushing for votes via their mailing lists (bastards!).
My weapon of choice to combat this last minute assault is an appeal to users of QBN.

No probs with regards to the controller help.
Controllers are a little bit of an obsession of mine. I think i've owned most on the market at some point in a strive for the perfect setup for my workflow haha.- NP, ended up with a microkorg, maschine mikro, apc40, and a kaosilator pro... here's to winter beats :)idiots

It arrives Wednesday, so I'll keep you informed, likely on the Ableton forum.
I had purchased the padKONTROL but was annoyed by the "Octave off" issue (c2 triggers c3) & I'm building a sound library as well. I decided the use of Maschine in Ableton as a plugin with the 6GB sound library + the free VST combined with the $50 I saved buying it from B&H, the total value of the Maschine package ended up outweighing the value of the padKONTROL as just a controller on the desk in my opinion.
I was also advised that I may end up building my simple or complex loops in Maschine, then dropping them into Ableton for further processing, so I'm looking forward to the expanded workflow options.

Yeah maschine is a good 6 gig of excellent and very usable sounds.

do you know anything about the 3 VST expansions they're offering? I haven't decided which one I'd like to get from them yet.

albums, you can listen to the demo tunes/sounds on the NI website. gives you a decent idea of what they sound like and what would be suited to you.
other than that, youd be better asking someone with a maschine and these expansions what their opinion is on the vsts- yeah, pretty much the boat I'm in... prob just start another topic at the Ableton forumsalbums

Yeah to be truthful I don't think that much of the original either as there's nothing very sophisticated-sounding about it for being a DJ Shadow track who normally does lots of drum work and little bits and bobs that you can pick out when you really listen and analyse.
It's a strange one because i've heard a good few folk say that this is their favourite on the album.

I think it's a very resolving progression, which pleases me. Granted, it's not the "Shadow sound" that we're all familiar with, but I think it still works. And the little off-beat pick up in the original is nice too.

meh, the vocals from Little Dragon are delicious.
The song though, compared to every other song on the album (or even ANY of his work) just doesn't impress at all. :(

bummer... missed the deadline - i thought midnight was tonight not last night. hey ho - wouldn't have won anyway, not least because it wasn't even finished - just a rough demo. we just felt there needed to be a non-trip-hop treatment up there, so were intending to use guitars and sonics instead.

Good to hear someone else has added extra instruments too instead of just using all the stems.Tell you what, theres a lot of shite been submitted! Half of the submissions don't even have the singing in time with the beats.
