I recently purchased this because it's aluminum, relatively cheap, and decent looking. Still searching for a better one, but at least the back glass will be protected now.

I prefer Switcheasy:

May not be everyone's taste, but I dig it. They've got plenty of other, more simple ones too. No aluminum, but their stuff always protects well.
I listen to music on my phone as well, which means that the earphone cord can get tangled up and caught in everything and result in the phone dropping onto the ground. Happened to me many times. Better to have some kind of hard shell around it just in case. It does add bulk to the phone (especially the ones that offer the most coverage), but it all depends on the individual and if they want to protect their purchase.

I have this and it works a treat for the price. Not aluminum, though.

I have this thing. It's not a very cheap case, but has a backup battery built into it so when your iphone runs low, you flip a switch on it and it starts to charge the iphone. Pretty handy if you'll be away for a good amount of time with no way to charge the phone, especially if you ever happen to get stranded somewhere.

I haven't used a case in over four years, but I always use screen protectors. I've probably dropped my phone HARD about ten times, and still no permanent damage done. I do blow through screen protectors about once every six months since without a case they tend to get more beat up.
I definitely don't understand the case trend.

sorry dMullins, I can't believe that you dropped your phone hard without a silicone case and nothing happened. Consider your self INCREDIBLY LUCKY.My 3g gently slipped from my shirt pocket to the floor when I tried to pick something up (so that's waist high) and the glass cracked a bit on the corner and a dent on the metal rim.
This happened the day I got it too, of course! :)
- Seriously Miggy, I have dropped my phone more times than I can count (3GS).dMullins
- I haven't had anything really bad to speak of on it, even on concrete/sidewalk drops.dMullins
- I guess you could be right that's it's just lucky, or dropping on the right angle every time.dMullins
- Also, I've never carried my phone in a shirt pocket. Probably not the best idea.dMullins
- I've known plenty of people who've dropped their phone and had the glass crack.Jaline
- that's rough. maybe i am just seriously lucky.dMullins

This is their website:
I can't say it fits perfectly (I can see a millimeter space in one or two places, which is ok for now, but when dirt gets there I am sure I'll not think so kindly of it), but overall it is one of the best designs I've seen.
Super thin, a polycarbonate/rubber thing. I love the looks, makes the phone actually look a little better (I love the black border with the white phone). The panel for the back is optional, you can leave it off to have only a border.
Aluminum "lever" is interesting, at least, and isn't really noticeable when using it.Looks like I ordered just in time! Says SOLD OUT on the page.
- nice design, the vapor can only be removed with a tiny allen bolt wrench

i know you want to love apple and all, but a phone that's as slippery as a greased pig isn't all that well designed. if it's something you're supposed to be able to easily hold or set on a table and its shape causes it to slip from your grip or slide off a slight incline into damage, well that's as intentional a design flaw as having the polished back. it adds nothing to the design and regardless of how well you take care of it, it inevitably get scratched anyway doing nothing more than reminding you how old it is replacing it to have a shiny one again.
I put one of those thin nameless rubber sleeves around my evo and i can set it on glass at an 85 degree angle and it doesn't slide off, it sure the hell doesn't slip out of my pocket, and doesn't slip around if my hands are wet or sweaty when i grab it.
so technically imo, the iphone is a poor design because it fails to serve it's primary function in a reliable manner consistently.
- it should be noted, i had my phone knocked out of my hand before i got the sleeve and i was amazed there was no crack or even a scratchidiots
- or even a scratch, but that's the day i got the rubber sleeve, now it's like spiderman, sticking wherever i set itidiots
- in case i didn't make it clear, i'm for cases on smart phones, they're necessary to protect an investmentidiots
