Let's be plain, both these guys are evenly matched. That's clear and if any of you watched the first two versions of this fight, you'd understand. Let me explain - Marquez knows how to fight as a southpaw in a way that Pacquiao has trouble with. It's why many reporters have concluded that he has Manny's number. He's also a vibrant counter puncher. That's always bad news for a striker like Manny.
Pacquiao on the other hand is an aggressive fighter with more power to his punches and complex angles of attack than Marquez has trouble pacing for 12 rounds.
Both the styles almost cancel each other out. It's why the fight seems to almost always come up a draw on most cards. Granted, the prospect of a Pacquiao and Mayweather fight is a huge business part of this, but not enough to give the fight to Marquez. If it were a robbery we'd have gotten a lot more reporting on an unfortunate outcome. We didn't.
Granted, judges often side with a champion if it's close, but not always, and again there wasn't any definitive statement made by Marquez to pull this one out. The last round was weak, almost as if he were protecting his lead - not surprising since his corner kept telling him he was winning the fight. Not a really good move in my opinion.
A good fight, actually. I want to see closely matched bouts where each guy gives his all and leaves nothing in the corner. I liked the fight, even though I'm a Pacquiao fan. I loved watching them both go at it similarly to the last two fights.
Next up, Cotto and Margarito. Oh, the bad blood. It's going to be splendid.
- Cotto/Marg...hell yeh. Did you watch the face to face interview with them both? Crazy.fyoucher1
- yeah. that was awesome. loved Hellerman's comment at the end of it.zenmasterfoo

I understand there are a lot of variables that go into a fight, but theres something to be said when HBO's 24/7 is more entertaining then the actual fight itself.
- it's a great broadcast isn't it though?zenmasterfoo
- Yeh, 24/7 is awesome and a good production. Nice to get the small details before the actual fight happens.fyoucher1

if you're "challenging" the champion... you better knock him out if you want to win, if not, no matter how much you sweat, try, cry... it won't happen. He's the champ for a reason...

they asked marquez during weigh in what he has to do to win or convince judges considering how close the last 2 fights were and he said "win every round"
he pulled a de la hoya and thought he had enough rounds won and fell flat towards the end. a champ can get away with this, not a contender.

Exactly!

BUT he was the better fighter. champ or not.
spin it how you want. watch the fight. its all there lol
- neh, strongly disagree. Manny was the one moving forward the entire fightfyoucher1
- disagree. manny drove this fight. marquez was reacting 80% of the time.brandelec

read the paper manny won. However I think he did enough as champion to win. Those looking for fairness in boxing. It's never been fair, bit like life.
- exactly. so there it is. he was the better fighter.sofakingbanned
