I'm thinking about taking a job I'm OVERQUALIFIED for.Does this ever work out? Will I be bad at it?

then take it...

depending on the situation it could work out to your benefit.
come in at a position you're overqualified for.. move up in 6 mos - 1 yr for the position that challenges you.
on the flip side you'll hate it and you'll spend more time on QBN as you attempt to deal with the magnitude of your terrible decision.

Take it unless it's something medical or related to nuclear energy.

I'd ask yourself what is equitable beyond the paycheck? If you are no better position after 12 months of work, then its a gamble that didn't pan out. Seems like the bigger companies do this, and its typically because of a political concession (but sometimes greed). Most smart HR people wont hire this way, because the logic is that you are likely to leave once a better role comes your way (vs a hungry candidate that wants to make a commitment).
If you do it, you might want to negotiate for a review after 6 months to give yourself better odds of coming out on top down the road.

I guess if I show any indication that I'm not completely satisfied,, they would view me as a flight risk.
- 'flight risk'? like the ash cloud?...babaganush

I see overqualified people everyday in London, they mostly clean toilets and offices because the immigration policy is fucked up

if you're unemployed - take it
if you're employed looking to move on - don't. never underestimate your self worth. if you are truly overqualified for this job you'll hate it, and yourself in 3 months.
if you're employed looking only for a paycheck - take it. i've never personally done it but i know people who have. they accepted a position they were way overqualified for only to go in, shut off their brain and collect a paycheck. to them it was job security and benefits. they'd say "dude i could go into work drunk wearing a suede jumpsuit and i wouldn't get fired." if that's your thing... do it.

don't even go there with asking if you'll be bad at it, it's an insult to the under-qualified who can't get that job because some overqualified guy applied for it.

10 million people unemployed.
Aint no overqualified shit.
Do work for pay, both agree, nothing else matters.
"likely to leave once a better role comes along " ? Shi-it, this is as good as it's gonna get for the next 20 years. There's too many people and not enough oil to pump free value in the economy any more. Shit's just wealth distribution now - all work, all commerce, all politics, just wealth distribution. Better get that ambition in check, what you want for now you're gonna have to take from people. You can be a good person, or you can do well - only so much to go around. Be fair, curb your acquisitiveness, be a good person, be overqualified, get paid, hug your kids.

Be a good employee

well, thats a good oportunity to revolutionize the job you're overqualified, this question ends on how much money they're paying.
i was at a Shynola speak in Pictoplasma, and they said that the work we see about them, is actually 10% of all the work they do, they said they do a lot of shitty stuff just for the money, that makes complete sense to me, and I think is the only way out.

Reality is what happens while you're busy making other plans.
