Go NZ. Better lifestyle. Friendly people. Cheap. Plus you can still do great work, if you got the skills.

all perspective i guess - i'm from there, but moved away 5 years ago. getting work wasn't so hard.
seems like everyone i knew that came to akl from london were designers - stayed for about a year and a half, then moved to sydney where they became cafe waiters...

I once worked for an agency that had some outsourced development done by a firm in NZ..... different business cultures were sometimes a surprise, but they seemed pretty good and pretty mellow.... sometimes too "mellow" for some hotheaded managers, who wanted them to "sweat on this"... but they did get stuff done....
maybe a good sign... this mellowness..... and/or lack of artifically induced freak-out-attitude just to "look efficient"

I'm in NZ. More work here than I can handle, same for a lot of others.

Hrm...NZ or SF. Difficult choice.
- cannonball19780
I thought about NZ as an escape route from SF, so might be worthwhile.

ha ha even better!

I'd pick NZ.
SF is packed with hipsters, and is colder than London.- Neither of these are good reasons to NOT go to SF.DRIFTMONKEY
- SF is colder than London? Really? Wow. I'd never have thought.detritus
- I knew people would get annoyed.
I like SF, been there many times, but you can deny that.chrisRG - SF is also greyer than I expected... both in grey weather and aging psychedelic relics everywhere....vaxorcist

Watched too much LOTR? Seriously NZ is cool, no stress but not much work for designers, at least compared to SF. Oh some ppl could be quite racists if u r Mexican or Chinese or mixbreed.
- nolovelost0
You will be fine, and racism won't be a problem. If you are a designer, with decent experience/work then again should be rather easy. Talk to these guys http://thepond.co.nz/, they will help with getting in with agencies. Visa might be a issue, depends on your home country agreements.

nah i got a job offer.
i'm just wondering what happens afterwards - say if i want to return to the UK / US — will it feel like i've been in a time warp?
i have this idea that it will be awesome for a 'break' from the real world - the constant hustle of London - but if i ever need to get back into it - i'd need to work three times as hard to make up for lost time.
saying that those places that RIZ posted seem to be decent eh! :)
'nother question - so Auckland is where it's at? not christchurch?
- Both pretty cool..slappy
- Christchurch would not be my first choicenolovelost
- Auckland +1
Wellington +Windmeffid

Question:
Go to New Zealand and get a job there?
Get a job and go to New Zealand?
Which is more of a hassle, considering it would be worth going for 3 months anyway even if no job was landed?
- dobre0
