So I am using and loving my Pentax K-x but need a camera that can shoot with lower noise in places I cant use flash.
So ideally, lower noise and ability to shoot at a faster shutter speed in those conditions...
Budget is around $1000 w/ lens.

Better low light than a k-x? Sounds it will be a struggle with your budget.
Your k-x is excellent in low light, its among the best A-PSC sensors out there. I mean the nikon d7000 is known for high iso awesomeness, but it isnt really any better than the k-x.

http://www.imaging-resource.com/…I'd buy some brighter lenses, or if that doesn't work and you need the extra low light performance maybe full frame is your best choice.

One of my favorite cameras is the K-x. Minimal low light noise is one of the things I like about it. If you like Pentax, then look at the K-5 (which I just bought). The Nikon D5100 looks great, as well, and is less expensive.

Thanks for the advice, my old roomie was a photographer and I remember him telling my the full sensor/frame would give less noise.
itTango, how is the noise and quality difference between the Pentax's?
I bought Topaz Denoiser and its helping pretty well so far.

It's less, but not so as you'd notice instantly. The purchase was actually based on the desire for a more professional build: up top readout, weather sealed, etc. Image quality was already great on the K-x, the K-5 is better out of the box, but as was mentioned above - if you buy better glass, you'll experience significantly better photos.
I've only had it for a week. Will report back with more, later.

Lenses: What are you shooting?
http://lenshero.com/lenses/lens-…- Indoor, mostly mood lighting, the film camera guys have lights on their handhelds.Noggin

what lens are you now using?
a 50mm F1.4 will make more difference than you think unless you already have one....
any F3.5-F5.6 zoom lens is near-useless in low light without flash...
be realistic.... you need a D3S or 5D mark II to get much better, at much more $$....
bouncing a flash off a back or side wall can give you great results.....
- Just whatever came with the camera.Noggin
- yeah, that's the problem. don't ditch the camera because of that. get a f/1.4 or even 1.8johnny_wobble

- 24mm or 35mm would be best for indoor small spaces. 50mm is nice too.johnny_wobble
