TimeMachine Problem

I noticed a huge issue with my Time Machine drive earlier this evening. It typically keeps regular backups, all the time, just like it's supposed to do. It backs up my MBP's 160 GB drive, and my 320GB external FireWire drive.
I was checking it out earlier and it's like the whole thing got wiped clean and it started backing up again yesterday night, only to not fully back up everything. Been having computer problems lately too and ran that Onyx program last night to check some stuff out, but wouldn't have thought it would mess up Time Machine.
Time Machine is on a 500GB MyBook Pro.
Has anyone ever seen this happen? All of a sudden I couldn't go back in the history more than a day. There was nothing there and the drive had a ton of free space - it typically has only 80GB free. Scary, to say the least, given my recent computer issues and hoping to get a new MBP. I'd shit a brick if I lost my full backups.

i dont use timemachine. i just copy all my files to hard drives.

I find Time Machine royally fucks up once a year and I have to wipe the drive and start again.

Oh,
I solved my problem last night by changing the wires for my two external drive.
Time Machine was on USB, my storage drive was on FW800. Switched them and was able to successfully make a full backup.
Bought a new MBP today as well and will get it next week. Computer on its own was having too many issues lately. I hate spending the money on a new one but will just pay it off and be happy as hell to have one with an SSD.
