Has everyone forgot about CSS and media queries? Can't they tweak font sizes and layouts for devices (device class, not per device) so I don't have to keep looking at these horrible sites on a larger monitor.
This corporate idea of throwing out desktops for tablets is ridiculous.

It sucks....and it looks the same as it has for the past year. What's new about it?

UHmmm looks like some simple ass WP theme like:
http://www.arrastheme.com/
http://demo.arrastheme.com/But maybe that's what they're going for usability wise

I like it, fonts are a bit too big but the sliders really nice

I like the general concept but it feels really cluttered. First off, I think they need to hide the content that's either side of the slider, this is one of the things making it feel messy. At the very least, use a couple of white-to-transparent pngs to hide content outside a certain area.
The whole thing is really crammed together really. It's too tight.

Oh and it looks like it's out with the old as copying Apple's UI concepts goes. Microsoft is the new cool.

What I like about it the most is not the design, but the actual content actually, they're focusing on what they actually do, which is make TV shows. Their old page almost only focused on news features.

besides the fonts, there's something there that I dislike.. I just don't know what it is. it looks messy to me

it needs calming down - the iplayer logo and all those arrow heads add confusion. the way stuff pops out and slides around as you mouseover doesn't help it hinders.
needs a designer to have a look at it and kick some sense into it

It looks like it's designed for boredom browsing. - "I'm here, but I don't quite know why?"
When I use bbc, I already know which section I want (news, sport, food etc.), so I just need to hit the section buttons, job done.
By having this monster scroll-fest, I guess they are aiming to show users that there are other things availble which they don't normaly visit?

It's designed for the ipad
- chrisRG0
^ agree...
but I'd really love to see what's the iPad vs Browser stats for their site.- Low, yet they seem to love wasting money on Apple specific apps/sites.kalkal
- haha Android users are jellyanimatedgif

I really like the slideshow, underneath looks a bit thrown together... but it may well be as this point.

ipad? - It's making more sense now.

@panacea It's the BBC, so it's never a NEW homepage, it's the culmination of 3 years of hard work by a few talented designers and thousands of idiots... In this case, marks the site-wide launch of the GEL (Global Experience Language) design system (http://www.bbc.co.uk/gel) which although a beautiful thing in itself, somehow the BBC have managed spread out over 2 years...
The first site to use the GEL was the Dr Who site which launched April 2010. One year later and most suppliers were still being asked to develop using the old GVL2 (Global Vagina Language?).
They finally managed to upgrade their programme listings system (can't remember the specific 3 letter acronym) in November 2011... which had the effect of making every bit of programme specific digital content developed in the previous year and a half obsolete... OH WELL! DEERRPPP ... Nice homepage.
- still looks like a simple ass Wordpress Magazine theme to mepanacea
- yeah, it's a bit shitty looking tbh. it's like they walked in with the wireframes and someone told them "yes exactly like that!"kingsteven
- although, it could work on a tablet.kingsteven
