When you say stuff like: "It doesn't seem as proggy. There's moments, but it seems more riff-oriented. It seems a little more stripped down" and hire a white hip-hop producer/studio musician from the suburbs, you know you are only trying to make money.
Its all good though, at least Scott Kelley gets to cash in a little bit...

Sounds like very dated 80s metal to me.
- Even the name of the band is corny 80s metal.CygnusZero4
- You have your metal incorrect.TheBlueOne
- So this sounds modern to you? Interesting.CygnusZero4
- 80s metal for sure.oktalk

Crack the Skye was amazing. The drummer is singing more often on this album and I think his voice is too clean and poppy for Mastodon. There are some good moments on the album and the album in all isn't bad at all. But we're under Crack the Sky, Blood Mountain and Leviathan for sure. Just a bit tho.

- One could expect the release to be a bit down from CTS. It's good to see they weren't trying to release Skye II.floccinaucinihilipil

they have a song where they make a reference to a Pink Floyd's song from DSOTM. That is cool.

Too soft, I prefer the Remission/Leviathan era, but not bad at all

I really like their evolution over the last two albums.
This album is a definite step in the right direction.

Just listened to some more on youtube. Love the goofy synchronized guitar solos. What is this 1983 Iron Maiden? Corny as hell.

its growing on me since yesterday... we will see...

maybe they're back to smoking crack? like it's the 80s...

Fecking love the album sleeve.

- Agree, but why is there a notch on the T? This bothers me.gramme
- Gramme, just look at the overall effect, let go a little. You can do it. The world is imperfect and its okay.Horp
- The overall effect is great, no argument there.gramme
- I'm afraid I'm incapable of turning off the typographic queries, though I suppose I could keep them to myself.gramme

Huge fan of all the albums before... but this is pretty bad. The musicianship is good, certain songs kind of seem just thrown together. But, the vocals are horrid and there is no way they will sing like this live. They had a hard time doing Crack the Skye vocals live and this is higher.
Bad times.
- They are looking to cash in. I'm ok with that, they deserve it.severian
- To say they had a hard time pulling off CTS vocals live is an understatement on par with, "this band has done a few drugs."floccinaucinihilipil
- ...drugs."floccinaucinihilipil

I listening to it like 12 times since 2 days. It's a good album. Crack The Skye was genius, so it's a little drop for me. And yeah, iam afraid the vocals will be awful live.
Needs more 'heavy' riffing. Otherwise those songs are complex and well written for sure. They know their shit.

Some of the voices are totally like Fear Factory, like the song "Bedazzled Fingernails"
