New MBP Question

Howdy.
Likely getting a new MBP this week and assume it will come with Lion. Not sure I want Lion.
Anyhow, I use TimeMachine to back up my existing MBP and know that I can install all of that to a new one, or that i can only copy over the non-OS stuff that I may want.
My question is for those who have taken another backup and applied it to a new computer: is there any major advantage to one method when it comes to moving software from one to the other? I ask because I know that Logic in particular has license requirements, and when I got a new logic board before it had a new MAC address, and I had to re-register Logic. I'm rambling... but I think you know what I'm getting at - I want to know what the easier route is to getting a new one set up and keeping most settings, folders, etc. as they are on my current one.
Thanks for your input.

Nah, I'm cool with the current ones, and the refurb price. There are 2011 models as refurbs already - I'm cool with that.

SuperDuper or TimeMachine... should work fine.

I think Migration Assistant for Snow Leopard got a Lion compatibility update recently so I don't think there will be a problem with moving your stuff this way. I think I would prefer it over a Time Machine update.
License-wise, some programs are tied to serial numbers but it's rare and can be fixed quickly.
I normally clone all of my MB content to new computer with something like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! but this would require you to upgrade to Lion on the old computer first. It seems a bit pointless but could be just the thing for you if you want to stay on Snow Leopard for some time. Current Pro lineup should still run SL while new models are sure not to.

just bought a 2011 refurb.
was waiting for more info of the rumoured 2011/12 redesign, but lastest news is now saying it'll just be a speedbump before xmas.
plus Apple just released a firmware update for 2011 MBP's that fixed Lion/Internet Update issues.
as for your software install questions, i would fresh install everything... not sure its even an option if you're jumping up to Lion.
with new computers i just import Apple account/OSX user stuff.
