Recommend me a PC which I can play FPS.
My current MBP (a generation before current) can not handle graphics too well in comparison to xbox or ps3.

Laptop or desktop.

Desktop, absolutely.
Budget?

Actually, given the current state of Console-centric releases, not many games really [ab]use DirectX11, so any half decent PC with a graphics card from the last year or so will suffice.
Sadly not that many games really pushing the PC technical envelope.
I recommend a water cooler, mind 3 oif only 'cos they're quiet.
- True. Seems like they design it for 360 first, then release for PC maybe with higher res textures and that's mostly it.ETM

I am mainly buying it for Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3. I dont want to over stack but want something that can run smoothly.

Maybe its cheaper to buy xbox / ps3 and add keyboard / mouse to it..

- came up to $6,634.00********
- i got 9,500 dollars********
- 6 870,00 Euros = 9 581,589 U.S. dollars, minus 400 euro discount********

custom build one. can be done for under a thousand easy and would blaze through any game.

So what's your budget and I am sure we can make some suggestions.

Ideal budget is under 2k.
- You can have a monster if you custom build.ETM
- right. go to a computer shop and ask them to spec one out to your budget, I don't feel like it now. post the specs here.********
- now I gotta find someone who can custom build and not rip me off..********
- most local indie shops won't try and rip you off, just get a quote and look the parts up and show us********
- ok_not_ok0
- meh. I was going to suggest this, as JSK loves to $pend, but they're essentially a tip off and they ARE ugly as sin.detritus
- ‘rip off’ obviously :)detritus
- saw that. priced it out.. not sure if I can spend that much or need that much.********
- extra 1000$ for that alien logo on the front********
- Yep, total rip off. Poser gamer machine.ETM

Building custom seems like a better way.
I wonder how it compares to xbox / ps3 in playing those two games.
Also, top of the line 15 inch MBP.

i7 2600k 3.4ghz $250
Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z mobo $300ish
6-8gb DDR performance memory (ranges)
ATI 6970 ($300ish)

One note, go with the newer Sandybridge processors like I suggested above unless you are going multiple videos cards. In that case the slightly older Bloomfield (i7 960 3.2ghz etc,) tend to perform better. Just architecture differences. But otherwise, Sandybridge wins on most other counts, as well as being cooler.

i thought a good gpu alone would set you back 4 figures (quadro and that)?
- Quadros are for workstations, 3d work, raytracing etc., not gaming.ETM
- we are talking gaming here not industrial sized visual effects or something********
- oops, my bad. don´t play games much...********
- heheh :]********

I gotta run in a mo, but ill help ya tomorrow dude.
heres some reading in the mean time
Cpu gaming benchmark -
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/C…cpu 3d rendering (if this is a consideration) -
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/C…GPU benchmark -
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/G…dont go SLI / crossfire, its cheaper but can cause some serious hassle.
Also people spend way way too much on computers these day. Becuase the xbox and ps3 have been out so long pc gaming is kinda held back due to the performance constraints of console gaming, obviously some pc games are pc only, which can far exceed console games performance wise, but it depends weather you want to play those games specifically.
Heres my spec which can play every game out on max settings quite happily -
amd phenom II x4 (quad core) 955
4 gig ram
msi cyclone gtx 460 768mbnow that graphics card is cheapo £80 but best bang for buck, the cpu is old, but still fucking epic does gaming and 3d rendering like a beast. Whole system was £310 including HDD power supply and case.

the other day i installed strike commander™ on a maxed out precision workstation - still laggy despite 1 billion times the recommended specs. must try again in another 20 years.
