Self-portrait photography?

Hello.
While we're on vacation in a couple weeks we're hoping to take some good photos of ourselves (my fiance and I) in Iceland and wondered if anyone had any good tips for taking photos of yourself? I want to get a wireless shutter release before we go, and I'm figuring that just taking a photo of her to make sure it looks good, then getting in the photo on a timer would be suitable.
But are there any tips you have? Probably lots of landscape shots with nice backgrounds, wide angle lens. Would definitely be fun.

I think you can hook up a monitor to your D90.... with a long cable....

or shoot tethered to a netbook... with a LONG cable... very nice idea...

possibly more flaky, but more fun...once you get it to work... and it may stop working randomly... so for travel fun, not yet ready for paying clients shoots....
