...pointless.
I crash word every time I cut and paste, causing me to force quit, re-open, and hope that I have saved after every edit.
My development team insists on word as the doc source.
Anyone have any setting suggestions?

nope, it eats RAM like a mother (all MS apps do) and is just terrible.
Convince your dev team to use textedit, or google docs.
Or get openoffice- It really does eat up a lot of RAM. I find it runs more smoothly on Snow Leopard.Jaline

google docs?
or pages and export to word

Open Office. Free.
Does pretty much all the Word stuff and saves out word docs, opens them etc... and every other Office product.

Lately whenever I paste text into (Mac) Word, it switches the layout to landscape. I have no idea why, or how to change it back. Fuck it.

Open Office is great unless you are trading docs back and forth with an MS user. Formatting doesn't carry over well in my opinion.
Going to try importing to goog docs...stand by for a report
- Sounds silly but have you tried exporting from Pages?Centigrade
- exporting from what? Basically word crashes whenever I paste into it. Lets say I need to add a url to a doc...I paste and crashmanonthestreet
- Pages is the word processing software from Apple.Jaline

Pages - Apples word processing software. You can work try working in that and exporting for Word. If your layouts are simple, it should work fine.
Only works on Mac BTW.

I've noticed the latest version of Word for Mac is much, much, much better than the previous version. I would crash every couple minutes on the old version. Unusable.

did somebody say Pages?

Pages is fine, but some weird things can happen in the conversion when you open a .doc.
If you aren't using the latest Word, you should download the trial and see if it solves your headaches.

I use PathFinder (http://www.cocoatech.com/), the preview allows you to copy paste text from word docs without opening the document.

Are you using Word 2010? I have it on my Mac and it's fine.

the most advance design application ever created!

Word - horribly slow in older versions. Prone to crashing and, while open, made everything else on my computer suck. Once I started using Snow Leopard, it was much better. Pretty much fixed (although it still uses a lot of memory).
Pages - I prefer this software on a machine with OS X. Just a note: whenever I convert the document to .doc/.docx, I always open it up on a machine with Windows and check out the formatting. Sometimes it's not the same: like the text taking up two pages instead one due to a tiny issue with sizing somewhere, so depending on what you do, you may have to double-check everything in Word. But obviously this is an issue if you don't have Word. Best option is to have both programs to cover your bases.

MS Orifice... er...word seems to exist only to:
1. keep IT depts at full-employment
2. keep irritating CMS debuggers who deal with customers who paste directly from word and get all those messed up apostrophes and mdashes
3. make sure that forced company-wide upgrades kill your software budget, as whenever one person upgrades, everyone else has to, or they can't exchange files...

The next time I update my resume I'm putting I DON'T DO WORD OR POWERPOINT right at the top.
- I told my boss I would not install any ms software on my own machines.manonthestreet
