Has anyone in the US gone to a Borders and found good books for cheap?
Worth going to?

I waiting for them to sell of their furniture so I can display my books with pride.

Worth it. The obvious things will likely be taken from the art/architecture/design sections, but the more obscure titles and things without fancy covers can hide for a couple days. I got some goodies when they closed a couple of the stores before.

NOT WORTH IT!
Seriously, their books are so overpriced to begin with, even with the discount of 40% you can still find that book for cheaper on Amazon.
I went to a closing sale earlier this year, had a stack of 8 books I really wanted. Looked all of them up online, mostly on Amazon, did the math, and found that by ordering those books at regular cost on Amazon, it was still nearly $50 less than what I'd pay WITH discounts at Borders. Seriously, I really miss the store in my neighborhood, and I hate that they're closing, but they're a ripoff. Don't be a sucker and stand in line grinning that you're getting an awesome deal, because you're not.

also, even if you do find something, you'll wait in line for like 40 minutes to check out.
- Yeah, thinking you got a deal, rush of endorphins, when you really are waiting to get robbed.mg33

I went and got a couple books that I would've bought anyway. Not really bargains @ 10% off, though.
Depending on the book, I'm willing to pay a few dollars more so I can see it in person and judge for myself if it's in good shape before I buy it.
Pricing aside, it was hella depressing. It was like a funeral in there. Nowhere to sit. All chairs, tables stacked and roped off. They wanted us in and out.
I'm a fan of the small corner bookshops, who I think will eventually out-live all the chains. But I did enjoy going to Borders and smelling those vast mountains of fresh paper and ink, getting a coffee and a stack of books, and plopping down in a big chair by myself for a couple hours. Imho Barnes and Noble typically has far worse selections. I wish they'd gone belly-up instead.

Clarification: Don't go when stuff is 10% off. They're not taking coupons during this time so you should wait until it's at least 30%. Of course, the selection will be well depleted by then but that's what you get: the things others missed and a reason to go to Amazon.

Hah, Borders are increasing their prices.
