So, since I will be in montreal, I will be asking for Sprite in english. If they give me a 7Up, I will sue.

Le Québec aux Québecois mutherfuckerz!

Why misleading tread title like this?
This is not $12k over 7Up but over the airline not complying with the gov't rules.
How would you feel if next time you go to a restaurant your waiter started talking to you, in say Bengali?
- i'd go to mcdonald'sprophetone
- I would choose not to eat there. End of story.aldebaran
- Depends if it was a Bengali restaurant. I'd kind of expect it there.Continuity
- good luck choosing "not to be there" when 30,000 feel in the air...pr2
- ya. he would have to leave 'cause he couldn't get a soda pop on his one hour flight.aldebaran
- again, it's not about simplistic thinking like that. it's about the corporation not complying with the laws.pr2
- What? He got his drink,. He wasn't ignored or misunderstood. It comes down to a branding issue and perhaps stock on the plane.ETM
- perhaps what the plane stocks.ETM
- Its like he ordered Sprite and got vodka or something.ETM

Wow, I wish physical harm upon this guy. What a douche.... but at the same time, wtf is wrong with Canada even paying attention to this???
- Because he knows which buttons to push with Canadians. Evidence: this thread exists.Continuity

We have it so good in Canada it's simply ridiculous. But that's still not enough for some.

No, the issue has nothing to do with language rights, official bilingualism or any of that.
It's got everything to do with one individual with a particularly interesting sense of entitlement who uses official bilingualism and language rights as a crutch to litigate. Promise you, if he lived in the States, and he reckoned his Starbucks coffee was too hot for his liking, he'd find a way to sue.

The issue is not about french language but part of separtist movement. Has to with preserving french language and culture with in Canada.
If this had happened in outside of Quebec or Ottawa, he would had been laughed at punched in the face for it. While Air Canada is former crown corporate, it still tries to maintain the governance of national airline.
- wasn't there Air Canada and Canada Air? or some strange duopoly like that till Westjet came along...vaxorcist

my ex was canadian.... Canadian problems are often like this, even worse than "first world problems"

I got a different version in 2003
This federal government employee filed a $500,000 suit against Air Canada because he could not order a 7-Up in French. Despite being fully bilingual, he insisted on speaking in French to the flight attendants, who only spoke English. He repeatedly demanded to speak to the captain, and after he started yelling, the cops were called to meet the Montreal-Ottawa flight. No charges were laid.

Michel Thibodeau should just STFU, seriously. I don't even care if Impératif Français backs his statements, this guy just really sounds retarded.
