So I've handed in my notice and I'm now registered as self-employed. yay.
I need to tart up my CV now. Does anyone have an example of a nice developer CV?
Im looking for word documents/pdfs
Cheers

You quit without having your portfolio and resume together? Really?
Good luck
(I know, really helpful, give me until I get my first cup of coffee down...)

like formed said; might have been smarter to have had this sorted before handing your notice in.
At least you have a healthy dose of FEAR driving you now.

Err ... I'm going to assume you had a founding client or two for your freelance gig that allowed you to take the leap?
I mean, I hope you did!
- Stugoo0
Yeah, I'm lined up with four agencies to get started. :)
Also if anyone knows anyone that needs a site built, gimmie a shout :)

I assume that you are
(a) loaded or you
(b) live with parents. There the 3rd option (c) a somewhat British way around it.
You quit you job, you ask for unemployment pension and house benefits and you live from the welfare state (or what's left of it) for a while. In the meantime you charge under the table for any gig you can get away with. The option (d) is that you haven't really thought much about it, yes?
Sorry mate!

good on you stugoo - after many years fulltime i recently made the jump to freelance 3 months ago myself - have not looked back! have a mortgage to pay and the whole schabang, so it was a big leap for me also, have faith brother! FUCK YEA DUDE. p.s have not used a CV yet, word of mouth is best also linkedin
- wtf. now what they said. was written whilst above was getting written haah.rabbit

Business cards + real-life networking + online networking + word-of-mouth + doing great work is better than a CV hands-down when freelancing.

@Stugoo:
'I still need something to hand agencies though.'
Honestly, if you've got four agencies lined up, it sounds to me like you'll get plenty of bread-and-butter work lined up from those to keep body and soul together every month. This will allow you to shop for clients you REALLY want to have, which is best done through good old fashioned networking.
Also, don't forget: the agency scene is incestuous, and if these four shops like you and your work, you can count on the spreading the word, despite the fact they're all in competition with each other.
We often say, 'people talk' as a way of warning people to behave professionally and so on to avoid being black-balled, but it can be equally applied to people singing your praises, and getting new business out of it.

^ as said there. agencies will know about you and keep calling you if you don't get too greedy and you deliver on time.
I mean, i don't hink i ever got a freelance gig for my cv... have a good webfolio and bcards.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

ah....
Developer CV's matter to the people who should not matter but sometimes do.. the PHB's and the HR department, who mostly want acronyms and buzzwords and CYA
What really matters is:
1. you actually complete things
2. you "get it" for the business requirements, you don't go off on tangents and build what YOU want, rather than what THEY need
3. you can deal with deadlinesAfter a few completed successful projects, nobody cares about a resume, a good recommendation from somebody who matters is worth far more....

The intention and style of the common elements of CVs and résumés are presented and discussed in order to enable the reader to make an informed choice regarding the design of his/her CV/résumé instead of just blindly cut and paste from others
There is some example http://luckymountainhome.com/jef…
