Poop Trouble

I did this in Cinema 4D. A friend of mine wants to do some kind of 3D printing with these. Textures and lighting are not an issue. It's all about modeling.

I started with a helix spline, put it in a sweeps nurb, modified the spline at the beginning and end. Then, on the object properties for the sweeps nurb, I played with the Details chart to affect the thickness of the poop from beginning to end.
The problem is at the top where there are creases. This is supposed to be a poop perfect in form. Is there anything else I can do?
I read somewhere about math formulas for nurb geometry. Can't find it now though. Is there anything there that might help?
Is there a much better approach I haven't tried yet? Thanks in advance.
