Just wondering whats out there a friend needs a pc for some CAD program. Anyone know of anything cool on the PC side?

if he's going to be using opengl with CAD, just make sure he tries and avoids integrated Intel graphics chips.
I blithely recommended a laptop to a friend recently, who solely uses it for 3d/cad layouts, thinking it was really good (I mean, it is). I didn't even suspect there'd be a problem .. and yet, Rhino, Sketchup and whatever CAD program it is he uses all collapsed.
Took me fucking ages to force install an updated driver, and even then it only supports to some older version, afaik.
Anyway, just a headsup, if relevant.

There are tons of different sizes, styles, features, etc... out there these days. It's really a matter of personal preference.
That said I have a Toshiba now and I love it.

I love my Dell Latitude E4310 and use it for some quite heavy rendering of Video and the odd but of light 3D with no trouble.
I'd recommend for heavy CAD work, perhaps go for Dell Precision M4500. It's the more steroid version of the Latitude E4310.
What's nice is they support 16GB RAM as well. A guy in my building who does architectural rendering uses an M4500 with 16GB RAM, and he uses it over the stock iMac i7's we have here.
- That's a Quad Core i7 with 16GB RAM in a laptop. It's big but weighs the same as the 15" MBP.orrinward

1. Buy Parallels for a MBP.
2. Buy Windoze.
3. ???
4. Profit.
