Tokyo would be so much easier if you could easily rent a smart phone that had full internet and google maps for less than $500. Ever try finding an address in Japan without a map? The street numbering convention is beyond western comprehension.
- just rent PeterH for all your needse-pill
- Just need to ask people for directions. But yeah, super confusingacrossthesea
- Not always the easiest thing to do, asking people for directions in another language.DrBombay
- once you understand it, it's not that tricky. But you usually have to wander round the block onceanimatedgif
- Understand it? There are no rules or system present dude. Anything goes in this town.Peter

Really well located hostel, it was well priced and a reasonable place to stay when i went a few years ago.

Have you considered the tickets for the split racing competition?
Because hotels would probably be sold out during the event, so hopefully you already made reservations

You can also get out of Tokyo for a week and either WWOOF it on a farm somewhere or do one of those zazen/vipassana retreats... would be a cool experience either way and pretty cheap.

I spend $2500 for 10 days, but I stayed with my friend. I also bought a lot of trinkets for my friends back home.
I say that 2k should be fine if you are staying with someone. Otherwise you will have to stay in a hostel. It would be around 700 bucks just for that. So 1700 for room and board, then you won't have money to do anything.
