Were is pixel perfect in illustrator CS5?

View snap to pixel. They turn on pixel preview. Also helpful to change units to pixel.

A little part of me weeps at the knowledge Illustrator is used for web design ...
- it's not really that badmonospaced
- it's pretty bad. if i was a coder, i'd be furious if someone handed me a vector file.CanHasQBN
- it's superior, really. i can see every page at once.doesnotexist
- designing in it is one thing, but handing over AI files is another. They create crisp PS files.monospaced

Thx guys

I always use illustrator to do basic layout of a website. It later goes to PS for the final template. Illy is just far easier to manipulate shapes, text etc in the early stages.
- yeah...I agree, I like clicking on a shape as opposed to selecting layersmonospaced
- use fireworks then.reinitialize
- NoETM
- Clicking on a shape? Use Auto-select in Photoshop. You don't even know the program FFS...CanHasQBN
- mono, turn Auto-Select on. Your life just got 100 times better.CanHasQBN
- I'll look into that. In the end, I don't need to send design files to developers. We have good ones that can go from a comp.monospaced
- I think we're aware of auto select. Illy still makes type much easier.ETM

Photoshop is not a software built for layouts. I've been transitioning from print to web and am still looking for a software that is as powerful and simple as InDesign but for web design.
Lots of people I know who started their designing "career" as web designers don't understand why they would use something else than Photoshop to create a layout.
Never tried doing a website layout in Illustrator though. Maybe a quick mockup, but the ruler/guide system in Illustrator sucks. No quick access blending styles either.
If only fireworks was quicker, more powerful and less buggy, it could become something closer to InDesign but for web design.
- re: Fireworks ... espcially for Mac OS. It's so fucking slow on a Mac ...Continuity
- I know! WTF are they waiting for?non
- YES!!! i've been having he same problm like non... cant find a design program to do quick layouts like indesign :(k_temp
- if you truly learn fireworks, it is as fast as indesign or illy.reinitialize
- The slowness isn't from the workflow; it's from the fact it is fucking actually slow on a Mac.Continuity
- Yep.

ps. The idea of creating a website in Illustrator is interesting for the designer, but I would get killed if I gave a .ai file to a programmer.
- thank god an Illustrator file can be converted to a PSD then!monospaced
- Yes, thank God for such amazing miracles.ETM

If you're just using Illustrator to generate vectors for Photoshop either as smart objects or just to rasterize, you should snap to pixels if you want clean anti-aliasing.

Sort of topic (sorry), but just curious...
Question to designers: would you rather see Photoshop expanded to include Fireworks features, or Fireworks to just be better?
- Fireworks better.
non - Fireworks better, photoshop is a fucking messanimatedgif
- Fireworks better.
PS is a fucking joke for UIanimatedgif
- Fireworks better.

IMO, they need to concentrate on Fireworks and get rid of its old reputation as being Illustrator's little bastard cousin. It has the potential to become a great tool, its not just there yet.
Illustrator and Photoshop are both great tools for Illustration and Image manipulation, just not for layout design.
- Adobe apps going back to their roots? There's a novel idea!Continuity

Basic question, so why is Photoshop more ideal to design a website than any other program?
Is it for the slicing option that you can cut and divide an image according to its position/dimensions?And, like non, i too find it hard to get the hang on Fireworks. I've been recommended to use it in the past but damn that shit is slow and buggy. It's even annoying to adjust type with its menu, kinda as shitty as flash.
- Photoshop is useful for creating textures and effects, wich alot of web designers use (and overuse, sometimes).non
- "Photoshop more ideal to design a website than any other program?" it's notanimatedgif

I'm sure a lot of people, maybe a 'few' years into their 'careers', use photoshop so often that they can't think how anything they need to do could be done any more simply or should indeed be done any differently..ahem.. I honestly haven't thought about doing anything in photoshop for a long long time, I seem to have devoted a large part of my cerebellum and visual cortex to this program, I just think about stuff and watch the cursor dart about in photoshop and eventually the thing appears, no words, no internal dialog about layers or shapes or selecting, no trying to decipher the interface, just one hand on the mouse, the other on the keyboard, tip tap - tap, shift-tap, click, hold-click, ctrl+alt+shift+s, alt tab into textpad, tappety tap...
I guess I work on my own too much.

I want Photoshop with Fireworks' ease of selecting objects. Please. I think Fireworks is better for web workflow but its buggy as hell and I don't understand why oh why I can't change my font measurement (px, em, pt, etc.)
- so true! That's the one thing I hate about PS. I've been using Fireworks since version 2 and find PS annoying for layout because of the way you have to select elements.Josev
- because of teh way you ahve to select elements.Josev
- Meh. I command select items and it's pretty easy. Only thing is that it's difficult to know if you got the right thing.Gucci

Doing web layouts in illustrator is actually really nice, art boards make comping up layouts for different sections a real breeze.
Slicing up the layout is still a bit awkward. If you're not doing your own mark up you owe it to the coder to do a really good job of converting it to PS. But in this case you you ought to just do it in ps anyway. Whatever you do don't export a PSD from illy and turn it over as is. Those files are hot mess and the coder will be within their rights to strangle you.
- Owe, and auto-select in ps. No were near as good ass direct selecting in AI.jtb26

I design & slice in Illustrator. A few tricks to learn, but once you're up and running it is amazing. Global colours, custom raster settings, real typography & layout tools.
Have sat next to Photoshop designers for years, I'm always amazed how freaking slow they are. Literally twice as slow to create the exact same thing.
- It's miles faster.
Some layouts and effects can only be done in PS though.meffid
