You wont get fired. What will happen is you will continue to exist in a perpetually complacent limbo of pumping out mediocre work for mediocre clients while working for mediocre employers, fulfilling your destiny as a "Good Enough" web developer/designer/whatever.
And remember: don't do anything drastic or risky! God forbid you do anything you may or may not regret. Just chant this mantra: complacence, mediocrity, apathy.

I totally wrote this post like I was high as fuck on crack but I got what I needed from responses anyway:) I just needed to figure out if I was being a whiny bitch (there's some of that) but what I'm hearing for the most part is that the situation is genuinely fucked up.

Dude, you had the time to write this thesis-length post at 2:30pm on a work day. Sounds like you've got a pretty mellow gig. I say kick up your feet and ride it out.
Also, it must be weird to know that every night when your bosses go home together, they probably sit around the dinner table talking shit about you.

I don't put up with any form of sarcasm in the workplace, unless I'm dishing it out.
Put her in her place, dig deep for some balls and look for a new job.
Otherwise, stop moaning.

Tell her..
Welcome to Web. It never ends. That is why you sign contracts to management the sites after you design it! Holy bajeezus.
I see this pattern with the above 50's, on the timeline, project management, needs, resources, necessities, ect. At my company, everthing that was organized and proper is now a massive cluster, incompitence F4ck,some on my part but particularily on everyones part because.....
the leaders aren't leading, so it gets left up to us 'do'ers' and creators.

What happened in the end?

Spot on thought, Viking - it IS never finished, it's a endlessly diverging series of milestones that are often preceded by 'Just do the....' (search box and page, news feed from those places, the new contact form, amending that front page graphic slightly, fixing the margins on those pages, redoing that footer, "quickly" adding that extra field/button in the cms so that xyz happens).. What looks like barely nothing sometimes can take 5 times the estimate if you run into other unforseeable issues on the small scale. Big project deadlines are quite estimatable, but very flexible, small tasks can trip up a project and knock everything off.
It's not just a question of getting all the copy and making it look nice on a piece of paper - there are many types of paper on different machine - it's a living thing with dependecies and variables and unknown chains of effects. Most sizable sites have something 'wrong', and often teams of full-time experts to develop, maintain and fix them. Not knowing this means that that's not being explained to any clients and so the little company is never going to breakthrough into that sort of work, and I very much detect shit rolling down-hill where the wife has been battling the husband against doing this sort of work, and passing that anxiety onto you. You and the husband see eye to eye cause you share the vision that this sort of work can be done, but you need to alter how things are. The wife is 50 odd and decided many moons ago not to learn about this technology, and now thinks it's too late.- I am not a web guy but tell your bosses to review their web design contracts. Its nothing like print when it comes to development and revisionsVikingKingEleven

I read.
Am I going to be the first to say "building websites in wordpress" is your problem?
Every time there is a bug / new security issue found, you create yourself more work and look like a cock in front of your boss who doesn't understand what she's selling.

Oh. And I just read the timestamp.

i think mikotondria3 and vikingkingeleven just made things really click for me. I've been thinking these people have it together since they've been doing this shit since the 80's and I'm the idiot who has to learn how REAL business is done. So I just see the situation as one where I'm at fault because even though I've thought every single thought those two posted above the owners must know more than me because they cut their teeth on Madison Ave.

add an empty <script></script> before the <style> element and your css should load in fine.

You gotta start asking questions. You were give a project today, ask what's the deadline? ASAP? ASAP as in a week or ASAP as in a day? In a day? that means all i can do is some minor design changes of a template, are you ok with that? Yes. Bam! You spend the rest of the day doing shit changes and noone can complain because that's what they signed off on.
The bitch is bitching - either play the game and bitch back in a friendly manner or stand up for yourself.
