Heyaa,
Currently have an option to buy from a friend 2x24" LEDs (600$each). Reason why I am opting to do so is that currently the monitors I have at home are LCD's and the colors suck and arent accurate (I could calibrate them but found that even through tweaking it still wont solve the color issues with regards to viewing angle -- and its bad, very bad)
Is 1200$ reasonable for these displays or can anyone recommend anything recent since these were in production since 2008. (Dunno if the monitors were manfactured in 08, still need to get model#)
Cheers

I'm pretty sure you can do much better than that. Have a look on the Dell site for their Ultrasharps.

hundreds of used cinema displays out there for $200-400

also, if you are running a mac pro, ensure it's the newer models with the mini displayport built in to the card. i didn't, apple wouldn't allow me to buy/test the newer card and i had to buy the atlona adapter... i was fuming like an enraged zissou.

Ultrasharps eh? I know it may not matter since all monitors aren't calibrated with some sort of consistency, but, are the aRGB gamuts wider on these displays?
What's yo experience with Dell displays?

I'm no screen expert, but at work we have 24" and 27" iMacs and Dell Ultrasharp U3011's and older Dell 2408WFP's, and both look better than the Apple Displays. The U3011 is the nicest display I've seen.

Dell ultrasharps, some HP's all share the same IPS panel as the cinema display so save a few bucks and get one of those... here's a list -
Dell Ultrasharp U2331 - absolute best quality / price allrounder with sRGB 100% coverage if you are ok with 23 instead of 24 inches
Dell Ultrasharp U2410 - great for photographers - extended gamut but also sRGB mode - if you don't know what extended gamut is .. i'd say go for the 23 inch
HP ZR24W - 24 inch, sRGB
Ultrasharp 30 inch - bigger but slower .. can't use it for games :)Rember LED just means the backlight uses LED lights instead of gas tubes :P - alltho there are some subtle differences main thing is the power consumption...
and .. all of the above and some other models have the identical LG manufactured IPS panel as the cinema display -

You can get the U2711 for around $600 new. They're larger, crisper and higher res than the Apple Displays will be, and I believe, though I can't substantiate it (due to lack of knowledge) that they provide higher quality picture. A bit of research and I'm sure you'll find the same.

I just bought this to use as a TV with an elgato eyesight...for $250 I'm very pleased 27" LCD:

Apple sells 27" refurbs for $850 with full warranty, I'm guessing you could find them used for 700...

- Glossy, though. That's the only thing holding me back on the Cinema Displays.elahon

We use these at work, they work just fine. We bought about 30 of them for the group.

Had them purchased for the last agency I worked at too. We would have loved to get Apple Cinema displays, but too pricey. The Dell Ultrasharp line works well with the Apple Color sync too. Use 3 at home, and 2 at work.
- When looking at ultrasharps, just make sure it's above 1000:1 contrast ratio.nthkl

NEC makes a good 23" IPS panel monitor that can be had for a very low price ($307):
http://www.amazon.com/NEC-EA231W…It's recommended here:
http://www.flatpanelshd.com/focu…- I have one in our office and was impressed with the quality for the price. We use a Spyder to calibrate it.Josev
- it's not as attractive as the Cinema displays, but it's not unnattractiveJosev
