Hello,
I’m wondering if it’s possible to ask for feedbacks on my humble portfolio, built for mobile? The main site should be based on the same content, and only will be built once I have finalised this mobile site.
It’s currently located here:
http://www.manmeng.net/projects/…You may view it with your iOS, Android or Webkit-enabled mobile browser. Looking forward to hear from you and hope you like it! :D
~~~Muchas Gracias~~~
why would you want to showcase work on a hand held mobile device that shrinks everything and loses a lot of quality? how can anyone go from showcasing their portfolio in a very nice fashion that is easy and identifiable to any viewer of the work to something so tiny and so un attractive that it gives the user a headache to even to try to focus on anything they are looking at? to which you then would need to step by step walk thru the viewer across your projects most likely from a larger scale..
to think any designer would take this route after going thru years of schooling explaining the proper use of your portfolio and giving it to your clients to gain work.
to me this way you are going about it, its like the client wastes their time with this and would give your opportunity elsewhere.
go larger, make use of your space, dont hide it under the tiny view of a mobile phone.
I see what you are saying guys, but perhaps a mobile site would help to pick up freelance work?
I'm imagining a situation at a bar/conference you could quickly show what you are about?
To use as a supporting portfolio rather than a main perhaps?
- really, have you ever tried to show your current work on a mobile only to be annoyed?epill
- no one wants to waste their time looking at something so tiny that they need to squint..epill
- Just presenting a counter-argument, no need to steamroller your views epillahli
- really, my view is a question to you.. how about giving it an answer instead of evading it..epill
as a potential employer- i'd be intrigued at first, but then when i went back to the office for a second look i'd probably be more annoyed that everything is so tiny on my computer.
seems like it should be an addition to a main site.
Interesting...
I checked your site in my phone and i have a few comments:In your Portfolio section, i think less words for each project is better and have the screenshot of your project be seen earlier.
The arrow that flicks the screenshots can get bigger, that is tiny to me.Also, your thumbnails for projects look like App Icons and i object to this kind of association because you are presenting projects you are not making any functionality out of each.
I happen to scroll a lot to get a sense of the entire page [in each project], it gets tiresome to scroll scroll scroll...
The menu is fine.
I agree with Set's comments about slightly outdated veneer choices, but wholly disagree with epill's ranting.
Good for you to try this route out — I hope some good comes of it.. if not, well, lesson learned, eh?
My thoughts though.. I'd try and make the site so it mirrors your existing form, then just have some smart select to automate routing between mobile/big screen.
.also.. dunno why/how, but your homepage flash slideshow widget is artefacting the descriptor text horrifically here on Win7 Firefox.
why are you switching from 1st and 3rd person in your copy?
k_temp has some good points re: amount of text.
It's 'designed for mobile' but I have to flick down the page whenever I want to see your work.
I think a neat way to do a mobile folio site is just to eliminate navigation and have a click through slideshow of your best work.
You've just met a potential employer/client/colleague, at a conference/bar. You proceed to be well-spoken, friendly, and calm. You exchange business cards. Yours will be well designed, non-kitschy, and professional. The next morning, you will email a brief message letting them know it was nice to meet them. If appropriate, you will then invite them to your well designed, non-kitschy, and professional portfolio site.
DO NOT pull out a cell phone or GOD FORBID a tablet and begin to shove tiny portfolio pics in their face.
