Has anyone here applied for a job that you felt you were slightly overqualified for? I have three years experience about, and the job calls for just "understanding" of indesign, illustrator, photoshop, and html.
Do I acknowledge that I know more but am still interested, or do I play dumb?
Do I just not apply?

it depends.. if they feel you are going to be bored/underpaid for your skills it can work against you, but if you are desperate for work, just make sure you let them know you are willing to stick with it..
then, overqualified can be an advantage..their greatest problem will be you look for more interesting work and in 6 months leave and they are back to square one.

We would discuss that if they choose to interview me I guess.

I've only ever applied for jobs I wasn't fully qualified for lol

I guess it depends what the actual job is.
Designer?
Project manager?
Office temp?
Kinkos employee?

Design assistant. Job doesn't sound so great, but the place is the draw.
I could just apply anyways, but just thought I'd see what QBN thought.

Would you take a crappy job with little potential for portfolio pieces if it were a nice company with nice people?
- no, i would eventually hate the place/people for not giving me folio opportunitiestOki
- I unfortunately had to. :(Continuity

having only about 3yrs experience, i'd say that you only have an "understanding of" anyhow.

most of the time they wont be interested in your application

Sometimes its good to take a break. Over the last 2 years I just wanted to do Graphic Design instead of Art or Creative Directing. Felt like a used car or insurance salesman. No heart. But the salary doesn't need to dip so far, just as long as there is transparency with the prospective employer with your intentions with their team.
Most places want someone that is overqualified, but never get it. Go for it if it is something that you really want to do.

If the place is really a draw I say go for it. If there's a good mutual connection, they'll move you to the appropriate position and level or create it so you can join the team. I don't think it hurts to apply.
