"anyway, obviously the attachment is a cut and paste job. the way it is the text might be a little too big in relation to the logo (the logo only prints out one size) so you can downsize the overall text a little bit. right now, 'COMPANY NAME' is arial black font, bold, italicized, all upper case, size of 20 text. 'Surf' is also arial black, not bold, not italicized, capitol S only, size 16 text. so when you down size the overall text, keep those ratios or whatever the same. the motion lines in front of COMPANY NAME can help show direction and motion so let's keep that. the text is all on the same horizontal plain as the most bottom part of the logo/trough. so without getting anymore creative, let's just do exactly this for now."
I'm starting to love how this is working out! The client came to me for his clothing company. He discussed his needs in his logo and gave me mockups of drawings. I thought he wanted me to build off of his concept and when I presented comps he grilled me and then proceeded to make me mock up around 30 different revisions all based on one of his drawings... with very slight and small changes.
now we just got to the lettermark portion to go with his symbol. yay

30 different revisions?! Fuck me, mate.

haha this guy really thinks he's going to sell Arial Black italicized to surfers. Jesus.
every time I try to help him I get these responses:
"look no offense but you're not a surfer so you don't understand the logo and what I need"& "you're thinking, I don't need you to think. I've been thinking about this project for the past three years. This is what the logo is going to look like. It's genius. No one else has thought of it yet. I trademarked the company name. No one has copyrighted this name yet! Make the changes so I can start putting them on tshirts"

Its not like he's paying you to be creative or anything.

"'COMPANY NAME' is arial black font, bold, italicized, [...]"
wait a second...Arial Black BOLD???? and then Arial Black not bold?
My sympathies to you my friend, a client like that only tells me that he pretends that he knows what he is talking about but he clearly does not.

If you can't talk him around, walk away.

I'm a surfer. I surfed for 12 years before moving to the Midwest, and still go whenever I can get to the water. You can tell him this surfer, who's also a designer, says that Arial Black Italic is ridiculously wrong for a surf brand. Arial anything isn't appropriate for any brand, come to think of it. Tell him to either trust his designer or do this shit himself.
Then again, he's done/said a few things that I'd consider grounds for firing. Hang it up. Collect your kill fee (I hope you have one) and walk away.

"He discussed his needs in his logo and gave me mockups of drawings."
Your first mistake was accepting a job from someone who delivers design concepts to you, instead of waiting for you to do that. It's your job to come up with the ideas, not his. Sorry to say this, but I think you should've seen this coming.

He's going to be mad when you all of a sudden have a big pair of balls.
