I can't find a decent bag that doesn't scream "photo nerd incoming". they have all these pockets and zippers and stupid color combos or are made to match safari clothing.

you want function over fashion? i recommend Kata-Bags 3n1 backpack.. all black, with great detailing in the interiors for protection, ease of use, strength, functionality and style. the interior is either red or yellow tricot i believe. it is by far one of the best camera cases on the market today.

I wanted to add 2 things I don't like either, but, qbn blocks it, I'll try it in 2 posts:
1. photographer's vest

Most of the time I use Domke F2. Looks better with age. And you don't look like you're going fishing.

- i wonder what shape that will take once you place your heavy camera in it..e-pill
- still doesn't look like a camera especially with some film canisters and another lens case in there as wellhans_glib
- i wonder what kind of protection it gives you while you walk it must swing around wildly..e-pill
- none at all. accidents will happen I guess I've been luckyhans_glib

are you looking for a case that is black on the exterior or dark toned, without accented pop colour interiors [this is done so you can see your products easier as most electronics are black] or are you just looking for a great pack that is functional and still fashionable but without all the added fashion bells and whistles? or are you looking for a pack that serves all your needs both for photography and lifestyle that isnt so tech driven and fashion forward but is defined buy its usage?
you have an extreme amount of choice out there..
- I see your point in the strong color inside. black outside goes with everything and is inconspicuous.secoe
- in the bag market, what is one vendor going to separate itself from another in the same area?e-pill
- the interior pop colour began not too long ago, and became the colour identifier for each..e-pill
- in the bag world as well.. 95% if not 99% of all bags purchased are purchased by a woman..e-pill
- this means the girlfriend, the mother, the sister and so forth.. so each vendor needs them 1ste-pill
- so to attract the female market to a male driven product the pop colour invents itself...e-pill
- this new market now has the female consumer looking at bags for their male whomever..e-pill
- their eyes are attracted to the colour, the stitching, the fabric, the patterns, the pockets...e-pill
- so more and more as the years go by these added features become staples to the industry.e-pill
- now here is the thing..the case you may want may be developed from the time b4..e-pill
- this product is developed and stores buy them and still own the stock. you can still get theme-pill
- function of product has advanced in manufacturing processes and constructions.e-pill
- to find the one product you really want, first figure out what you are putting inside it..e-pill
- in this product category, the fashion is defined by the function..e-pill

~SR116 is a single piece leather wallet, laser cut from Nile perch* skin, folded into shape and hand tethered with black oxidized rivets.
Packaged in a pop-up box, it lays in the mouth of a Leviathan rising from the waves.
Five colour conditions are available: psoriasis , bruise , necrosis , frostbite and ultraviolet . Personalised hot name branding is optional and inclusive.
no, wait.. can't spend 200 dollars on a fish skin wallet

perhaps worry less on the way your camera bag looks? it's just a bag...
- secoe0
@bjladams, are you really saying on a design forum the "look" of something is not important?
a product designer just lost his job when you pressed enter.
- arent you asking for a product that is defined by its function over its fashion?e-pill
- why are you then defending the nature that which is exactly what you dont want?e-pill
- find a function driven product. the fashion if any should only serve to fit your needs.e-pill
- not define the "look" .. its look is defined by its function, not its fashion.e-pill
- bjadams is correct.e-pill
- i'm just saying that i've never admired a photographer based on their camera bag.bjladams
- i think that is the best description of that product i ever heard.e-pill

+1 for kata. think tank has some decent subtly-design bags too.
- e-pill0
oh secoe, kata-bags makes photographers vests as well. go thru their entire product selection you may find what you are searching for.

humm, gura and kata look nice.
@e-pill you can say the primary function of your clothes is to keep you warm, your house to protect you from rain and sun, etc. etc. but that's old discussion, most people in the design business will tell you "aesthetics" or "looking good" or "fitting your personality" is part of the function of the product.
An adequate camera bag should have some padding, rain protection, be easy to reach for a specific lens and that tip you gave about the color interior is a big plus, but to do so it doesn't have to shout "techy", say "look here, this guy is carrying some potentially valuable camera equipment" or "why is that 34 old regularly dressed guy carrying a kids backpack", etc.
just a helvetica of bags would be nice, even if not "fashionable", always "appropriate".
but those kata and gura look pretty good, way better than most stuff at my local stores. I'll prob get one of the those, thank you all.
