Brethren.
I would love to get your comments on a new portfolio site I am working on. I have some further changes in mind already but at this point I just want to get your first impressions.
I really want to hear ANY FEEDBACK - anything that comes to mind. As you browse through, what are the things that make you go 'huh?'. What are the things that make you go 'ewww'?.
*Not all of the client links have content so if click on something and it sends you to the top of the page, that means there is no content for that section yet.

Rip'er apart. I'm leaving this up for 24 hours only.

trouble getting links to work in opera. about 50%. got annoyed left but im probably a small demo.
- Right. Not all the "Work" links are working. If it sends you back to the top, I haven't created content for that client yet. Thanks.sisu
- i was just getting non response. didnt send me to top.deathboy
- my bad though i didnt finish reading the post about non links. saw check it out and hyperlink and commentsdeathboy
- works good for the links that work.deathboy
- Cool.sisu
- i chose the links over the scroll the links through the interface instead of scroll if that helpsdeathboy
- Wha? Not sure I understand.sisu
- sorry booze and distractions. i went right for the linking navigation vs the scroll bar. didnt even notice scroll bar.deathboy
- basically sayign the navigation isnt in veindeathboy
- Cool. That makes sense. You wouldn't know it was a one page site until you experience a little.sisu

I like the portfolio itself. The logo you did is pretty nice and the single page navigation with big screenshots presents the work in a good light.
The work itself on the other hand has a little too much of a "stock photo" thing going on at times, like on the PG+E illustration. And then a couple pieces where you are showing someone else's portfolio and work. I would try to frontload the site with more distinctive and original work.
- Realize its tough with client work. You can always add in a few self-initiated pieces though.abettertomorrow
- Any other projects induce the 'stock' feel? I understand what you're saying. That project was done a while ago.sisu
- Another example, on the CBS one, I like the bag, and like the middle image on the second page, but the other images just ruin it for me.abettertomorrow
- kind of ruin it IMO.abettertomorrow
- A lot of this is about self editing your work and knowing what to show and what not to:)abettertomorrow
- Yup, thanks. That's what I'm here trying to do.sisu

overall, i really dig. the thing that really bugs me is the header takes up about a decent portion of the screen on my laptop, which makes it a little frustrating to go through the slider since it readjusts itself.
- fowleryo0
being a bit nit picky tonight, but there's something odd about having a designed intro slide that doesn't match the actual design you're showcasing. case in point, pg&e. looked good til i went to the next slide and realized it looked totally different.
- Thank you. I have been struggling with the concept of a 'cover' slide that when clicked into maintains expectations. Good to note.sisu

Looking good, I like it. I would just see if you can shorten the header and work nav a bit. When scrolling and viewing an image I'd like to be able to see it all without being cut off.
And think about maybe removing the black frame on the 3 featured at the top. I don't think they really need it.
Cheers.
- Thank you, thank you. And here I am thinking it's all good with a Cinema Dispaly :)sisu
- akrok0
i think you can remove a few bars.
i am not a big fan of centered text/copy. but it's not that bad.
i love the slides. i actually have to figure out how to do that. for a friend site.
- Bars unnecessary? Is the content enough context for you? For the slides, I'm using the cycle.js plugin. If you'r looking for easy, google easyslider.js Thanks!sisu
- ... easy try googling easyslider.js. Super straightforward. Thanks!sisu
- sweet. thanks.akrok
- with bars, i mean thin or fat lines going across.akrok
- Cool, thanks for clarification.sisu

First of all, I LOVE seeing all the great work people on this site do.
As for the site, I think it looks real good. I agree with the above comments about the header size. I think you could do away with the "featured work" title. IMO a portfolio IS featured work, I would just make sure to follow all the old sage advice about showing best work first, and finishing strong as well.
I like the mark you've developed for yourself but the white on black at the top bothers me for some reason--just doesn't seem to fit.
Overall I think it looks great. Look forward to updates.- Not a huge fan of the triangles in the browser title either, but thats just personal taste, doesn't detract in any way :)ridg0026
- Thanks ridg. What do you mean by the white on black? - the 2 lines of text?sisu
- sorry that wasnt very clear was it. I was referring to your logo mark top center. Like I said, just personal taste, but in my opinion it clashes a bit.ridg0026
- opinion it clashes a bit. I would like to see it over there by your name, maybe integrate the two somehow...?ridg0026
- Ok, ok.sisu

QUESTION: When browsing through the projects with very tall images (Beck's, Juke, Growing Pains, etc) do get lost/lose interest since the nav isn't visible if you scroll down to view the bottom of the image?
- sisu0
Thanks for responses so far, those above. Anyone else have critique to add?:

For those of you just waking up, I would love to get your comments on a new portfolio site I am working on. Not all of the client links have content so if click on something and nothing happens, that means there is no content for that section yet:

Massacre time.

Back work shown badly.
The poo yellow is off putting.
The fonts don't match.
It's confusing and weird.

I really like the site layout, good job. I'm thinking it would be better without the black & white cover page on each project. I would get rid of the cover image altogether and just lead from the second image. It would add a bit more excitement that way, you would then have more colour and the page would seem more varied. Either that or just rework the covers. With the B&W/photography it seems to create a false impression that the work is very samey.
Not to keen on the background pattern either, I would bring the pattern size right down if you're keen to keep it. And at the moment your logo just seems a bit stuck on, try and make it blend in a bit better.

I like the detail in the functionality (nice use of fixed float and having a slideshow centre in-screen when you click an arrow is neat) and I pretty much like the site design itself.. just getting a bit wary of the kdu-esque geometry-led gold and noire schtick. Not saying I don't like it, just feeling wary of its increasing genericity.
Great stuff, Mark...
...and a bit of a kick up the arse for me — I was going to do my own '24 hour rejig' on my home site last week, but never quite got around to it!

I like! a lot. I sorta want the work nav to be in the black so that when scrolling down i'm not left with 2 bars at the top. (The site has a bit too many bars for my liking) The type could use a bit of finessing. Like the alpha back on content area flipping the background tone. like that it has a feature call out although perhaps not necessary. Dig the work. Not sure some of the initial images do the work justice. PG&E for example (other than the skateboard) doesn't quite give me a sense of what the project looks or feels like.(It's a nice photo tho) Whereas Juke classes up the project a bit and has some relevancy to the work.
Maybe not put ur bio in latin. j/k
I like. I'm jealous. I need to redo my portfo but I haven't had time to.
well done sir.
- aanderton0
I like it, however I think the nav would work a lot better if it had a semi transparent background rather than solid white. Looks kind of odd with two bars at the top after you scroll.

I see your site, and I am instantly reminded of this:
Not saying you ripped it, but you can't deny some of the stylistic similarities, especially with what's happening above the fold.

Dear Mark, I respect your 'sisu' name means hardwork through the thick and thin in Finnish. Very cool, I quite liked your interactive presence. Great job overall. But I was bummed with your brand identity. not a bad experience showing the client your portfolio of work, but the story behind the creative was left only to the imagination, besides the descriptor. And in this day and age its a bit safer to cite whom was responsible for what etc. etc. Good job though.
- moldero0
love the header and sub header and how it functions differently depending on your screen res. very nice sisu

In safari you work links do not work when clicked.
