I am compiling a list of creative and idea generation sources, something I have always found quite inspiring.
Since college I have been collecting books, magazine articles, quotes, and games on the open subject of creativity and idea generation and lateral thinking. Mainly for my own use, to refer to when I feel a bit creatively blocked.
I thought it would be interesting to share some of these links, and to ask others to contribute inspiring, creative, idea generation sources - whether it be music, creative exercises, books, quotes or websites.
Please do add your links, quotes, books, sites, music, games and anything else that could inspire.

So a few are:
Idea revolution by Clare warmke
Interesting books with a variety of the above. Interesting idea generating and brainstorming games and exercises.Creativity for graphic designers by Mark oldach - interesting quotes, a bit heavy reading but good to delve into.
Visible signs by David crow. Interesting book about semiotics, coupled by great illustrations in a variety of styles, including a set if stickers
Many of the books by Edward de Bono show a different way of approaching lateral thinking.

i use tumblr & ffffound for this, and always looking for new things, buying fashion mags (usually purple fashion), they're always usually on top of what's new and good.

I went to the Design Museum London on Sat to see the wim crouwel exhibition, which was good. But I love the Design Museum Bookshop which has a great variety of Books which you don't see in most bookshops. Their own range of books are very good too.

When I am looking for visual connections, I find the Visual Thesaurus a good way to explore other word connections which I might not have originally thought of. http://www.visualthesaurus.com/

if i have a block, i go and do some exercise and normally after said exercise, on the ride home, something just pops into my head.
*touches wood. Also I find the science and tech section in the economist inspiring. Like ridiculously inspiring.
but id love to have more resources. great thread!
- I feel the same with New Scientist. The mix of subject matter, questioning how we approach subject, and illustration is rather inspiring.Hue

The incubator where I work is filled with creative ideas.
I just overheard some twat say:
Person 1 (idiot): 'The idea is that we will have an iPad available in a gallery that is a multidimensional space, where people can come and view a video about the space on the iPad'.
Person 2: 'What do you mean by multidimensional space?'
P1: 'A room'
P2: 'And why the iPad?'
P1: 'To provide a unique audio-visual experience'
P2: 'You mean a video?'
P1: 'Sort of, but not really. It is unique because of the device the user interacts with it on'
P2: 'Oh, it's interactive! What can the user do to interact with the video?'
P1: 'Errr, they can pick the iPad up from on the podium'I hate buzzwords and idiots. As I've been typing this I've lost track of what the idiot is saying to the other guy who doesn't seem to be an idiot, but 'Social Media Background', 'Design metaphor for the translucency of modern media interfaces' and some nonsense about the age group that people use iPads has been spewed out. There are 70 million of them apparently, all of which appears to be completely irrelevant to this bollocks installation of a video on an iPad in a room, that this guy is trying to push as groundbreaking.
- He is now describing himself as a 'Transmedia multidisciplinary producer'...orrinward
- hahaha!Miesfan
- I think we should all chip in to buy Orrin a shotgun! ...and a video camera for our satisfactionProjectile

I just thought I would share this article that I have always found very interesting,
The Observer Magazine 2002 What’s the Big Idea? 10 gifted individuals talk about their source of ideas. Including Mark Wallinger, Bobby Gillespie, JG Ballard, Eddie Izzard, Peter Saville, Corinne Day and others.I always found it an interesting read about creativity and ideas in different creative fields.

Ah, I was hoping for more input from people, more links and interesting articles to be added. Is this something that has been covered before on QBN? or not really something people are interested in? maybe too vague?

this is quite interesting:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/146981…found on google, because I remembered that the military were the only once who actually funded research in creativity...
...didn't read it in full now, but I think it includes the things I was thinking about.
