Hmmm. Who will be the first to hack a free mirror site?

Have to admit I'm torn on this. The NYT is a really good paper and I wouldn't want to see them fold. On the other hand, $15 (or $35 for access via all devices) is high for just the same content they offer now. Wonder if $9.99 would have been a better price point.

NYT April 1st Headline
"The New York Times losses 40% of its readers". The NYT says it's filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection while it reorganizes...

it is a good paper.
it's a shame.
doesn't change a thing.
all of us get our news and info online now....and we're not getting it from the times....atleast not enough for it to continue in this fashion.

Get it thru twitter, no caps when it comes from there. They spent years coming up with this garbage paywall. That is the funny part. They want to have their cake and eat it too. So 20 stories a month directly but if the traffic comes from FB or twitter it is free always.
Someone will setup a NYTfree twitter account and run it through twitterfeed from their RSS, paywall has been compromised. It can't work.

New York Times charges, goes to other site for the same news.

Something tells me they may be targeting, well, rich people basically. And hoping they can have it both ways at once, milking the rich for $450 a year with the subscription, while still offering access to the unwashed masses who will be unashamed to use the NYTfree twitter feed as DrBombay says. From that point of view its not a crazy plan.

It's been $28 on Amazon Kindle for a long time and I haven't heard anyone making a ruckus about it.
Not being closely familiar with the US print media I gave it a try (2 months free trial). It turned out to be the leftist equivalent of FOX news, just as ridiculously biased.

I would say Huffington Post is more like the left-wing version of Fox. NYT is a serious paper, I'd compare it more to The Guardian or WSJ in terms of quality.
- Guardian is leftist too, BBC is obviously pro-government (aka hand that feeds) with a gay twist.raf
- But yes, NYT know how to do proper journalism—it's just their ideological line is pretty obvious.raf

- You have to distinguish between their hard news and opinion, just like with WSJ I'd say********
- Keep in mind there are many on the left who view the NYT as supporting the military and overly right wing********
- by the way AOL bought them.akrok

People pay us for our work. We should pay other people for theirs. You want free journalism? Go crawl up Yahoo's news.
If I were them I'd go for something like $30/yr for a digital subscription, but still. $15/mo isn't exactly a crime.
- Well that's a pretty big different isn't it? $30/year = $2.50/month********
- I do agree with you on the first part though********
- Yeah I know. I'm just saying $15/mo isn't that bad in the scheme of things.gramme
- I might do it if I didn't already get my news from a host of other outlets, both paid and free.gramme

I would be willing to pay $15- per month if the NYT removed all of their useless banner ads from the new "paid subscription" service.
I am fairly certain that the NYT "wants their cake and eat it too" with both dumbass banner ads as well as a paid subscription.
They can kiss my ass!
