Would it be fast enough to run CS5 if I swapped the harddrive to a SSD and upped the ram to 8gb? Or is the extra graphics card in the 15" needed.

lol....I'm pretty sure the old MacBook Pro would run CS5. It doesn't take that much just to run Adobe applications.

I'll also have all the extras open too, Safari, mail etc, looking now though, even a Macbook would be faster than my G5

I have the MBP 13" and I run AI/PS at the same time, along with Sparrow, Twitter, Textmate, 3 console windows, a MySQL server, and multiple Rails processes...oh yeah and Safari.
All on 4gb ram and a non-SSD drive.
I think you'll be OK. :p
- Also...this is on the Core Duo model - not the newer faster ones.sublocked

Ample enough then, cheers Sublocked

I run a 13" MBP just like sublocked and think it's plenty fast enough. I prefer the size of it over the 15". When I'm in the office I hook up a 24" monitor to it.
The only frustration I have with it is that I get comments from other designers along the lines of "I dont know how you can work on that thing"

To follow up with my comment above -- my 13" MBP's fan is running all the time. The fan comes on even when it's only running a time machine backup. I took it to the Apple Store and they told me it was because I'm doing graphic design on the computer and I've probably overtaxed it. They said you should not be doing heavy design on the 13" and should have the 15" MBP.

^ They're retards. What a stupid thing to say.

I have a unibody 13" MBP that runs just about all my day-in day-out programs at once with no problems.

I rarely even edit large files, mostly web stuff and typically have only two apps open. Also have 4MB RAM and it sits on a stand, so it shouldn't overheat. Something is definitely wrong with it.
