Johnathan Ive on the ipad 2 -
"i dont know of a product that has been completely redesigned in such a short period of time."
...completely redesigned? its like the same fucking thing. they might have updated the hardware, It might be a bit faster etc, but you cant call it completely redesigned.
its 33% thinner, but with 280% increase in pretentious twat factor, at least thats the impression im getting from their awful promotional videos pack full of positive adjectives.Front and rear cameras? welcome to 2009!
Now that front screen cover is fucking great. Really like that, very well designed. magnetic attachment is a very smart idea.
- I agree 100%. I want one, but it was not in any way "completely redesigned."mg33
- well how else would they "completely" redesign it? it's always going to be a flat, sleek, glass object.CanHasQBN
- and 33% thinner is a lot thinner.CanHasQBN
- Hombre_lobo would have "Completely redesigned" it into a circle or some dumb shitanimatedgif
- wo there animatedgif, sorry if defended your god. maybe you'd like me to head to the nearest apple store and repentHombre_Lobo
- oops - *if i offended*Hombre_Lobo
- indeed canhasqbn, its form will always be the same. but you cant really call it a complete redesign.Hombre_Lobo
- from a technical perspective maybe, but since when were apples customers technical?Hombre_Lobo
- telling your ipad target crowd that it is completely redesigned is just misleading.Hombre_Lobo

Thinning out a product and making it more powerful, would actually take a complete redesign. I know what you're saying though - I definitely try to avoid Apple's promotional videos - throw up!

- yeah but I dont have one so Im thinking on getting this one... nice little upgrade..joseprieto

They certainly do a good job at making their competitors look like crap :P

watched some of the ipad 2 keynote event today. And jesus fucking christ, it was the most self-gratifying pretentious load of bs ive ever seen.
Its basically steve jobs banging on about how great their products are and how much they've sold, showing competitors and laughing at them... yeah real classy.
I dont know of any company that is lame enough to show competitors and show lesser sales and literally laugh at them.
He also misquoted samsung vice president in regard to the galaxy tab sales.
Apple make GREAT products, fucking great products. Its obvious they do. The masses love them and their marketing is exemplary
But their promo videos and these arrogant keynote speeches just completely ruin it. Clearly the fanboys lap it up, and it obviously doesn't affect sales but its just cringe worthy. All those sales cant buy them an ounce of class, clearly.
You'd expect a company that takes design so seriously to be culturally aware and conscious of their image and taste in these events and promo videos.
The products are fantastic, but the promo videos are laughable, cliched riddle and cringe worthy. The keynote event (ipad 2) was just self gratifying and tasteless.
- Keynotes are for the press and enthusiasts mind you.ernexbcn
- Not only do the other companies laugh at Apple when they can, they make commercials to do it. It never works.monospaced
- never works. Also, Apple wouldn't have press conferences like this if people didn't pack them like they do. Nobody else can.monospaced
- yeh mono, they clearly work. people flock to them, papers write about them. i just find them so uncomfortable.Hombre_Lobo

Shameless thread hijacking / Self Promotion -- sorry, can't resist :)
Looks like Garageband for the iPad 2 will be giving us some (friendly?) competition:

Post fail! I should have read the html instructions...
Regardless, iPad 2 looks pretty sweet, especially from an industrial design perspective -- really like the simple screen cover.
- Nice app, have you done well selling it?Andrew_D
- Thanks Andrew -- yes, strong start. Constant updates are needed to keep it goinggregorywieber
- (which is cool, because it forces you to keep improving / listening to users, etc)gregorywieber
- Awesome, keep up the hustle! ;-)Andrew_D

No other company does keynotes like Apple with Steve Jobs, you don't see in any major newspaper when other company do their events, that only happens with Apple, and yes they always begin with the current status of the company, interesting facts they want to share and then move on to product announcement and features.
I have to agree with you with some of the promo videos they run on the keynotes with all the Apple top guys saying how things are magical and made with unicorn blood, those are a bit silly, but the rest is impeccable.
- thats true, you dont often see in the papers keynote events about about anyone but apple!Hombre_Lobo

I am sold. Will be ordering once the store is back online.
(this is my second Apple product, so not a huge fan, but I just can't deny they are steps beyond the competition in the iPhone and iPad)
- I'm glad you're sold! Apple might have been in trouble if you were displeased.cashface

Original iPad had room for a camera and a gyroscope chip.

Gotta say, Steve looks the same. Not the near death image painted by that article a couple weeks back.
