i would go small... oragami-esque maybe?
invites are usually 1 piece not folded, special, small.

fold it like a paper football. might not be the most attractive solution, but only those who take the time to actually open it will be worthy to attend your gathering.

what's the invite for? what kind or event?

I forgot to mention,
it will be done by a printer, not hand made by me,
so the fold need to be kinda standard but not too much

id say no fold then
go for a unique square-ish shape and get some nice paper, maybe some blind debossing
- I like this,

Self-mailed? What's your quantity?

I've done one on bible stock. Half the design was on one side half on the inside. Hold it to the light and it joins together.
