Templates are not just limited to the Web...
It appears that all media (music, design, film, books, etc...) have been sampled, borrowed or stolen. Nothing is original and or innovative.Everything is a Remix, Part 1

what fadein11 said. My po-mo theory is coming back to me. I think in this case the term 'remix' is being used incorrectly, remixing is obviously a large part of it but the more general and accurate term would be 'transmogrification'. Meaning changing creations and ideas in full form and content not just in structure like a remix is. Transmogrification I think is specifically what is happening with art, pop-culture and design, remixing is a form of it.
- But in order to call it that, you need to CHANGE creations in full from and content then... side by side shots of exactly the same thing proves this never happenedMiguex
- same thing, proves that this never happenedMiguex
- ...the examples of using sequels and cross overs of movies into video games etc. is called transmogrification according to my post-modern education is my pointDodecahedron
- its not 'remixing'. The examples side by side are examples of transmogrification as opposed to remixingDodecahedron
- the music examples are obviously more related remixing and literally are remixing but the general discussion is about that big T wordDodecahedron
- discussion is about transmogrification. I'm not disagreeing he's just not being specific enough :DDodecahedron

When I was in school, we called it pastiche.
I guess 're-mix' sounds more hip and cool.
- No, "pastiche" sounds more hip and cool:)abettertomorrow

Maybe the question should be, why do we put so much value on new ideas? If something is good, isn't it better to reuse it instead of having a shittier "original" alternative?

Even the idea of Jesus is a rip as explained in that Zeitgeist movie:D
- Jesus was a real man who had a bunch of cultural mythologies applied to him.Dodecahedron
- he is not merely an idea but a combination of a mans legacy and cultural influences and philosophiesDodecahedron
- but yeah anyway sry we won't go there...yeah :/Dodecahedron
- Whether he was real or not, I'm saying a lot of the mythology was borrowed from past culturesabettertomorrow
- true, just Zeitgeist makes it seem like all a bunch of myths with no historical reality and thats not accurateDodecahedron
- like the Jesus Christ story is just a manipulative lie for the powers that be.Dodecahedron

so, if you surround you self with good design. you should be safe then. :-)

Innovation is really just combining two existing ideas in a new way...
So Dance with Wolves + outer space = highest grossest movie of all time

I'm honestly sick of "remix culture". It's become an excuse to be a lazy, thieving piece of shit.

The thing that gets me is why these videos resemble a news programme special presentation, one message "everything is a remix". an outward view on popular culture without any real research in to the history of artistic appropriation...
Still he's not wrong ('cept the daft punk / chic bassline) which is more of a play on that style of bassline...

... but while we're exposing rips
One of the most distinctive melodies of all time - Bernard Herrmann's Taxi Driver theme is lifted from a Basil Kirchin soundtrack released 20 years previously.
- Dodecahedron0
I don't think this is about ripping work its about transgressive culture.
