I have an idea for a business. Basically converting static HTML sites into CMS managed sites. Turn around would be 24-72 hours based on the complexity. And cost would be a flat fee of $500 - $600 bucks.
Do you think it's a good idea? CMS costs about $150 per site the rest for labor.

Are you going to spam QBN with links when its done? If so its probably a winner!
- For sure! I'll send all the links to you personally.insomnie
- can't wait!Dodecahedron

if you enjoy it, feel like you benefit from it, and it doesn't put yourself or others in danger, then it's a good idea.

What kind of CMS do I get for $500?
- insomnie0
Fee includes purchase of CMS plus integration fee.

I think it's a good idea, only question is do you really make enough after taxes, and after the cost of EE?

I don't see how $500-600 is worth 24-72hrs worth of work.
But hey, that's just me.
- yep. That's like $12 an hour.fyoucher1
- Plenty of people earn way more than $500 in 72 hrs workabettertomorrow
- Or did you mean too little? I agreeabettertomorrow
- It breaks down to 500@24hrs = 2$20.8/hr and like $7/hr for 72hrs. I think the rate needs to be higher.d_rek
- Not to mention the complexity of the service offered. It's really no small task take static html and turn it into a content managed site.d_rek
- Well being realistic It will not be 24 hours of work. More like 3-4.insomnie
- I don't think he actually meant work FOR 24 consecutive hours:)abettertomorrow
- I am pretty good at EE I can convert a site in a few hours.insomnie
- insomnie0
Well then I should increase the fee? What about $600 + client pays for EE.

I am just trying to get your honest opinion of what will work for designers, etc.

make it a 1000€ and we're set

Yeah, I could see it starting around $999. It all depends who you are targeting. For a real business, $500-600 is nothing, it's almost too little to be take seriously.
Also Expression Engine is not Wordpress. There is a bigger learning curve there so you would be offering some value I think.
- But you would probably need "starting at" some number for the basics, and then add based on functionalityabettertomorrow
- Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps not listing prices would be ideal.insomnie
- Thanks! I will think about it. Need to come home and wire-frame some stuff.insomnie
- No, you want to list some price right? That's the appeal, that it's a cheaper option than hiring a regular web developer.abettertomorrow
- At the same time, if they want 10 sections as opposed to 3, that takes more timeabettertomorrow
- Absolutely. I deff agree with you.insomnie

it's like Twitter, only you'd have to pay for it
- insomnie0
What does this have to do with twitter?

I'm sorry: http://www.27bslash6.com/p2p.htm…

Sounds like an interesting idea. I could see using that service.
But you may take a bath on the labor costs. If you had a team of offshore developers to flip that over quick and cheap, than you might be in business, and can handle volume.

saying any website is a bit too broad. you need to limit yourself before you get a 500 page website that you have to get dome in 72 hours.
- abettertomorrow0
The other question is would you provide server setup/install across all different configurations. That can get a little tricky where EE is involved, ie, removing index.php:)
- dbloc0
I think its cheap and you will get plenty of business...just make sure it's brings in enough profit to keep doing it, otherwise after about 10 websites you'll be over it.
