  I had some ASOLO's like these that were ugly but very comfortable out of the box but I ruined them doing yard work/home remodeling.

  I second mammut, specially the mammut mercury gtx

  

  just don't try to dry them over the fire, they start to melt. other than that, they last forever and are very comfortable.

  wear a pair of nylon socks under your normal socks to avoid blisters.

  I've switched to hiking and trail shoes. I just hate the process of breaking in a new pair of boots.

  The only time I really missed my hiking boots was carrying a heavy pack on rock, steep terrain.
