Hello all.
I thought it would be a good idea for us to link to various websites here that show off how folks have used social media feeds in an interesting way as oppose to using standard widgets. :-)

The idea makes me feel a bit sick inside - but I suppose we have to face facts .. social media is here to stay.
BUT - maybe there are alternatives to showing streams of feeds; the largest being, don't show them.
What's the actually purpose of displaying a social media feed? Is it to actually inform people visiting a site? Is it to brag amount the site's social currency / credentials / connectedness? .. is it to sign up more followers?
I don't usually pay attention to embedded feeds .. because I can't see how doing so benefits me. If anything, when I notice something interesting - that sends me off on a tangent, and I leave the originating site and start viewing someone else's content.
Maybe we don't actually need these feeds - and people only embed them because it's easy to do / and it allows them to say 'I do social media' without much effort.
- Yes partly bragging rights but also it can be useful for companies to use as content as oppose to a stagnant websitecitizen_h

I agree with you on some points and have rolled my eyes when a client has asked to do this but nevertheless I think its up to us creatives to come up with unique ways to display this information rather than the mundane.

I'm all about social media as a way to build loyalty & increased engagement through ongoing conversation and brand experiences and amplify word of mouth by motivating influencers by igniting the existing community to attract new members by amplifying the experience with relevant and engaging content.

And you can't help but increase organic growth by exposing audiences to the brand through breakthrough viral communications.
