when the city was founded they asked the towns people to submit names for the city. they would pick one at random and that would be the name. nobody put a name in so they called it tincup.

Dauphin County was created on March 4, 1785, from part of Lancaster County and was named after Louis-Joseph, Dauphin of France the first son of Louis XVI. Louis-Joseph's title of Dauphin signified that he was the heir apparent to the throne of France. The county seat is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's capital and tenth largest city.
Obviously, there's no crown in France any longer, so that's somewhat interesting.

Beaver Lick is a town from Kentucky, with a history of mineral deposits of salt, and it seems that many towns with such a history have the word Lick in them. None as appropriate as this one though.
