Hello everyone at QBN,
Well the day is coming for most of us, Valentine's Day, don't really get the whole meaning but who cares!I'm buying her the Leica D-Lux 5 I've seen good reviews on the net, but I was wondering if any of you have experience the actual camera?
Thanks xoxo hahaha

I love this camera. It's dead silent, fits in your pocket quite easily and uses simple controls to take great photographs. For a point & shoot camera, it's pretty much on top of the pile. You'll get laid for giving it to her, and the pics you post up here of said event will look fantastic.

It is a good camera, you are paying for the "Leica". If you want to save about 300/400 bucks check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5. Pretty much the same thing.

- Good point, but I guess epic's theory of reward will not come truehektor911

from what i hear they are identical, its only the leica badge thats different.

I've compared both. There are differences; whether those differences are worth paying for is subjective. The Leica is quieter in action and faster. True, though, they basically use a bunch of the same parts.
Also, the girlies love labels.

Does she even know what leica is? If not just get the panasonic version.

With the D-LUX 5 you do get Lightroom. And a longer warranty IIRC.
Unscientific side by side comparison of the LX5 vs D-LUX5 -
http://forums.dpreview.com/forum…the jpegs from the d-lux 5 look slightly darker than the LX5. the LX5 output looks better to me.

^hehe
i was just about to comment on your previous post, saying its identical hardware so it shouldnt focus faster and quieter. Unless the firmware is totally different (which it isnt)you got a d-lux5? it does look a little nicer thats fo sho.

Straight from Steve Huffs mouth -
http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/20…"But Isnt This A Panasonic LX-5 In Disguise?
Many of you reading this will trash me and this review if I say ANYTHING positive about this camera. Why? Because there are many out there who bash Leica for “rebranding” Panasonic cameras with their body shell and logo and selling it at a $300 premium. I will say right now that if you want to save $300 and you want the same camera then you can easily buy the Panasonic LX5 RIGHT NOW for $499. You will get a one year warranty, you will get a different body style (with grip) and you will get lower end software. The Leica D-Lux 5 will give you different firmware, different body style and looks, a 3 year warranty, and better software."
- blah blah blah. you will never know the difference.betelgeuse

Great find, I guess everything boils down to your budget and the experience or call it a perk of owning a Leica! Thanks for your time guys!

I'll give her the case and let her buy the camera...

I've been pictureshooting and exploring the possibilities of my new Leica D-Lux 5 now for a month and I am quite satisfied with the purchase. The extra camera-grip is a necessity. Without it an easy handling of the camera becomes problematic. The engineers of the camera should migrate the two bottom buttons to a higher position, ljust under the two other buttons. This in order to lower the set- and other program-buttons. Now my thumb stumbles regularly over the set-button and I am obliged to switch-off and restart the camera in order to get the screen ready for use.
