epl2 I think
Or the new Fuji thats coming out, fixed 23mm lens, or thw new Oly xz1.
Or, of course the GF2!
The canon 550d is also nice.- sorry that's not very descriptive!Atkinson
- Ha - considered the epl2 but prefer the idea of a non plastic body ...skeletonboy

yeah the plastic is bad. I've been through a load of cameras over the past two years. None are perfect. 550d / s95 were best not just for their type but as an all round camera. Epl1 with pany 20mm lens is excellent. The GF1 I struggled with, though the build quality is excellent. Do you need interchangeable lenses? If so why not SLR?
- DONT TAINT HIM WITH YOUR DSLR LOVE ATKINSON!!!Hombre_Lobo
- 550d is a stunning camera tbh though. considering one myself these days, incredible vid and high iso!Hombre_Lobo

comparison of the GF1, e-p1 and e-pl1 -
http://www.qbn.com/topics/636491…
(im gonna have to add the E-pl2 to this soon i think)If size is of the UPMOST importance, a GF2 would be a wise choice, however, its touch screen appears to be a bit temperamental, and as there is no mode dial atop the GF2 you will be using the touch screen to change mode.
If you wouldnt mind a slightly bigger cam, id go for the GF1 or E-PL2.
as you can see its not that much smaller, perhaps when you go to a shop and hold them it may seem a lot smaller, but i dont think its worth paying the extra cash for a new model, which is a tiny it smaller, but otherwise identical to the GF1.
Not only that i think the GF2 only comes with the 14mm pancake, and the 20mm pancake is the best m43 lens there is which you can get bundled with a GF1.
Just remember the pen cameras have better jpeg noise reduction at high iso, so the out of camera jpegs look better than the GF1 at high iso.
The pen cameras also have better colours in their jpegs, only slightly, but they are warmer and punchier making more images 'pop' (yes i said 'pop', fo!). but if you process RAWs its irrelevant really.
The pens focus slightly slower, BUT this is because of the Olympus lenses, put a panasonic lens on a pen body and its faster - only a tiny bit slower than a panasonic body + panasonic lens.
NOW!
if you dont want an additional EVF and dont need a built in flash, i would actually recommend the E-P1.Its soo cheap, takes amazing pics, great high iso. Its pics are a tiny tiny bit softer than the E-pl1 (due to the e-pl1 having a weaker AA filter), it has a metal solid body (unlike the E-pl1's plastic) and has a slightly bigger LCD than the E-pl1.
The additional EVF to the GF1 / GF2 / LX5 is no where near as good as the olympus one.
If you would want to use an EVF and want an inbuilt flash i would wait a short while for reviews and then probably got for an E-PL2.
It improves on the LCD of the E-pl1 by having double the resolution, has a much better button set (the e-pl1 buttons feel a bit cheap), has a new lens which has attachments (wide angle, macro etc) and can take the awesome oly EVF.
Hope that helps!
- There he goes! Warned ya!Jimbo82
- haha! thanks for pre warning them of the geek bonanza that was in store! :PHombre_Lobo

haha. The reason I went to DSLR was:
m4/3 appealed because of the scope for learning. I liked the 'gadgetness' of them being small etc. However they're not pocket sized and are really no more portable than an slr with a 'do-all' lens. Slr is faster, generally better IQ, better video and has a viewfinder, something I didn't realise how much I enjoy using. SLR also feels more natural to hold IMO.@Hombre_Lobo, I'm actually looking to sell the DSLR to try another sometime soon. I just like trying stuff. Let me know if you're interested. Selling with Tamron 18-270 and Canon 1.8 50mm preferably.
- learning after using POS that isAtkinson
- PAS, not POS!Atkinson
- thanks for letting me know dude, but im strapped at the mo, just moved house. Cheers though, good luck!Hombre_Lobo
- ps are you one of them camera hoppers?
its wel fun trying out cameras isnt it! geektastic :DHombre_Lobo - yeah, I like trying cameras + bikes. Stupid really.Atkinson

I really do not see the point in these cameras, as soon as you put a decent lens on it's nearly as big Nikon SLR. I would take a point and shote any day of the week, or go with the bigger SLR camera.
- Atkinson0
I see the point of them, and they have a market, but now having used all three would agree with the PAS and SLR
- letterhead0
Here is some more decent discussion on how the GF2 compares with the GF1 http://www.flickr.com/groups/dmc…
- Hombre_Lobo0
@pillhead
im not too sure i agree with you -The m43 cams are certainly a lot smaller.
One thing to think about also is the weight.
E-pl1 + 14-42mm = 415g
550d + 18-55mm = 720g301g difference = 43% increase in weight. Thanks a big percentage.
However im under no illusion that m43 cameras are pocketable, for me they arent, loose jacket pocket maybe, but not really. I just put my GF1+20mm in my bag and dont even notice its there.
- Hombre_Lobo0
^obviously saying that they arent pocketable and that if its going in a bag you might as well buy a DSLR and put it in a bag, but its the weight that makes the difference.
The m43 lenses are also lighter.
If you want to shoot fast action or low light, m43 just wont cut it though.
Saying that when you compare the E-pl1 to the D5000, the E-pl1 still performs better at high iso, and its sharper. and its cheaper.

Cheers for all the responses - useful info.
I have DSLR already which never tends to get much use - and I'm after something with a bit more oomph than a standard point and shoot, but also something pretty small - hence why the GF2 appeals.
Considered the PEN's - they sure are pretty ;) - but wanted something with a built in flash and a non plastic body.
I know the GF1 and GF2 are very different beasts and am debating whether or not the tiny size reduction will be worth it ... or as Hombre Loco says to go for the GF1 / 20 mm - choices choices ;)
