Green is not the number one selling point of using bamboo. It's a high quality, durable material that looks pretty cool. But there are several other benefits:
- Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth, making it a great agricultural crop to build with.
- It sequesters carbon at a higher rate than any other biomass.
- This bamboo is grown locally in Alabama where the bikes are being built, and where many will be ridden, thus minimizing energy used to ship materials.
- It will put Americans to work growing the bamboo and building the bikes.

yeah, I don't think killing a plant to make a bike qualify as green concept on the true essence of the concept, (like it would be if they were made from recycled plastic or just restored old bikes), but green as it, it comes from nature maybe?
They look amazing though

This video is worth watching if you're interested in the bike performance. Marty is helping with the Alabamboo project.

Bamboo bikes have got a really interesting feel to their ride. They're light, strong and look cool if you're into that sort of thing.
I'm hoping to swap a website for one sometime over the next few months :)
- Which is to say — I dont think the green angle is the main driver. Certainly not those I know who own/make them.detritus

these are cool.

How many hundreds are these selling for with a handful of parts made from bamboo? I'll take the Huffy.

Too bad you don't have the heart to just enjoy it for what it is.

Too bad you aren't also creating the handlebars, rims, chain, saddle, crank arm, cassette, seat post, stem, breaks, or pedals from bamboo.

yeah, might be a tad of green washing there.

Are these really green? Applying 2 miles of tape and a shit ton of poly to get this thing to stay together when you ride it doesn't sound all that green to me. Seven or eight bamboo elements make of the bike. The rest is the same as any other.
In terms of total carbon footprint, how much less than a carbon bike is this? Educate me.

Apply to help design and potentially run the Common Cycles business using Alabamboo (bamboo grown locally in Alabama).

An initiative by Project M to grow bamboo in Alabama and use it to build bicycles.
