I'm a little confused what you're asking. If you want to permanently forward one domain to another, like you used to be whateverqbn and now you're switching over to qbn, you would do this using mod rewrite in Apache (or whatever the equivalent if you happen to use something other than Apache).
But delivering two different URLs simultaneously, one to search engines and one to users, I have heard that is not a good idea and can get your site de-indexed from Google if you get caught.

permanent forwarding would be ideal

Actually, nevermind.
What I mean is: my friend has two domains. Domain #1 and Domain #2.
Domain #1 is where all the content is.
Domain #2 is the URL he wants to use.
Currently, he has it set up so that Domain #2 is the URL that is showing up when you go to Domain #1 (cloaking).He wants to set it up so that Domain #1 does NOT show up in the Google search results.

What's the easiest way to do this without moving the entire site over to Domain #2?
- Jaline0
I'm guessing I should tell him to just move the entire site over.

isn't this just a basic option in godaddy? or it used to be.

- Point domain #2 DNS to the name servers of wherever the website is hosted.
- Add domain #2 to domains list of that hosting account
- Point domain #1 somewhere else and remove from domains list.
- give it some time, DNS should be propagated within 48hrs. Google may take much longer.

easiest way without fucking with domain shit is to make an index.php in the 'duplicate' domain name and put this:
<?php
// Permanent redirection
header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
header("Location: http://www.realsite.com/");…
exit();
?>That should work, shouldn't it?
- qbn cuts that 4th line, be sure to hover to read the full bit...oddslob

monNom, how is the content of Domain #1 being shown when you go to Domain #2 though? You seem to be suggesting to just point Domain #1 somewhere else.
oddslob, what about the domain URL though? I still want Domain #2's URL showing up everywhere with Domain #1's content.
When he had the site hosted at 1&1 this was fine in terms of Google. But now that it's hosted at Dreamhost, Domain #1 seems to be showing up in the search results too. He didn't change the domain registration location (HostingDude.com) at all.

Oh, do the DNS/nameservers have to be the same?
